Nurse Respiratory Tech
Part-time (24 hours/week)
The Nurse Respiratory Tech provides high-quality respiratory care to promote the health and recovery of the patients served by Sakakawea Medical Center. Maintains daily contact with inpatients, outpatients, physicians, nursing staff, and department manager. Works to maintain a good working relationship.
The ideal candidate will be a great team player, who will work with the existing respiratory care team to assure we are meeting the needs of our patients. The nurse will primarily provide outpatient services (cardiac rehab, stress tests, etc.) and will also assist with inpatient treatments and some emergent care procedures within the scope of practice.
Knowledge/Certification/Skills Required
Requires current RN licensure with the North Dakota Board of Nursing. Must maintain current BLS and ACLS certifications. Must obtain PALS and NRP certifications within the first year of employment. Must possess excellent communication skills in order to explain/direct home programs and exercises. Must be able to interact with patients and families in a positive manner. Must be able to work with a high degree of independence and possess the ability to make decisions quickly. Must be able to work in high-stress situations and retain concentration. Possess an understanding of cardiopulmonary anatomy and physiology. Be able to prioritize procedures throughout the day and utilize critical thinking when necessary. Must be a great team player, who will work with the existing RT team to assure we are meeting the needs of our outpatients, inpatients, and ER patients.
Essential Functions, Roles, and Responsibilities
- Perform both basic and critical respiratory care procedures, cardiac rehab program, and cardiac stress procedures on:
- In-house patients including swing bed residents;
- new admits;
- emergency room patients;
- trauma and code cases;
- outpatients;
- home care patients on oxygen and CPAP/BIPAP.
- Performs both evaluation and diagnostic testing on in-house patients and outpatients. Communicates with physicians for the best care of the patient according to established protocol. Interprets test results and assists in establishing the best course for the patient's recovery according to established protocol.
- Perform departmental operation functions:
- daily charges;
- calibration controls on necessary equipment;
- stock supplies in designated areas of the facility;
- chart all patient interactions in the chart;
- make frequent rounds to stay current with order changes and requests;
- monitor equipment and report all malfunctions.
