Sakakawea Medical Center Athletic Trainer in Hazen, North Dakota

Athletic Trainer

Full-time (36 hours/week). Monday-Saturday, day and evening shifts.

This position is eligible for a $5,000 sign-on bonus and education loan repayment!

Sakakawea Medical Center is looking for an athletic trainer to provide coverage for local high school athletic programs. Duties are based on the needs of the school and its athletic programs. The athletic trainer will be present at home athletic events and practices and shall attend other post-season and home-hosted events as directed by the Rehab Director and/or Athletic Director.

Requirements Must be a graduate of an accredited Athletic Training program. Must hold or be eligible for a ND athletic training license.

Must be able to produce appropriate written/dictated documentation of athlete encounters. Must possess excellent communication skills to explain/direct management of athletic injuries. Must be able to interact with athletes, coaches, and families in a positive manner. Able to assist injured athletes' patients/clients in functional movement to return to prior level of function.

Essential Functions, Roles, and Responsibilities

  1. Establish an effective athletic training program for local high school athletics.
  2. Provide first aid and injury assessment/treatment/rehabilitation/reconditioning for local high school student athletes. The athletic trainer will also be responsible for making appropriate referrals to physical therapy and/or medical providers.
  3. Provide coverage at home events and practices from the beginning of the fall sports season to the conclusion of the spring season.
  4. Collaborate with the annual required athletic physicals, concussion management, and supervise the clearance of injured athletes prior to and during the sport seasons.
  5. Maintain a line of communication with the team, rehab, and physician(s) regarding athletic health care and recommended treatment/rehabilitation for all athletic injuries.
  6. Assist coaching staff in evaluating and implementing sport specific conditioning programs and methods.
  7. Maintain an effective and efficient athletic training room.
  8. Maintain communication with parents/guardians on the care and treatment of their student athlete.
  9. File all necessary reports associated with athletic injuries and/or incidents.
  10. Maintain a daily treatment log.
  11. Oversee the ordering of supplies and equipment pertaining to the athletic training room and maintain an up-to-date inventory. Provide the Athletic Director with an annual budget for supplies and equipment.
  12. Equip each team with appropriate medical equipment.
  13. Assist in the selection and fitting of protective equipment, including special taping, pads or braces.
  14. Create a safe playing environment by monitoring and controlling environmental risks.
  15. Share professional literature related to athletic training with the school's coaching staff.

OTHER DUTIES

  1. Complies with state, Medicare, and insurance rules and regulations.
  2. Maintains professional standards by participating in in-services and committees.
  3. Obtain adequate continuing education units for state licensure.
  4. Advises and consults with athletes and athlete's families and other staff members.

The athletic trainer's duties, enumerated in this document, should not be considered all-inclusive. The Rehab Director and/or Athletic Director, as necessary, shall modify duties.
