Dakota County Detention Services Security Officer in Hastings, Minnesota

General Description POSTING TYPE: Open Competitive DEPARTMENT: Sheriff HOURS: M-F, Full-time HIRING RANGE: $53,925- $60,666 /year (grade 106) SALARY RANGE: $53,925- $84.258 /year LOCATION: Hastings, LEC UNION: NA CLOSE DATE: 4:30 p.m. on 5/23/2024 The primary responsibility of a Detention Services Security Officer is to provide building security at the judicial center in Hastings, the Western Service Center in Apple Valley, and the Northern Service Center in Mendota Heights. In addition, you may be asked to assist detention services deputies with specific tasks and duties to create efficiency and improve services for the Office and community. A Detention Services Security Officer may be asked to perform security in courts and escort prisoners providing security as needed. A Detention Services Security Officer will also be expected to respond to emergencies, enforce rules, and laws as directed. This position will be Monday-Friday working 8-hour shifts, Monday-Thursday, or Tuesday- Friday 10-hours shifts depending on assignment. This position will require you to successfully pass a comprehensive background investigation; medical, and drug screening. Candidates for employment with the Dakota County Sheriff's Office must be able to comply with Minnesota Administrative Rule, 6700.0700 Minimum Selection Standards, including all candidates shall be a citizens of the United States. All visible tattoos will be reviewed and recommended to the Sheriff if they should be allowed. Tattoos may require covering if they are determined to be unsightly, or offensive or a job assignment requires it. Visible tattoos on the ears, head, face, neck, or any portion of the hand area are prohibited. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities and Work Environment General Responsibilities Building Security at all three Judicial Centers (primary) Conducts foot patrol, interior and exterior premise checks, and monitors door security. Assists with building emergency response procedures (medical, fire, severe weather, bomb threats, etc.) Engages the public and staff to build and maintain positive working relationships. Observe and report any building, health, and safety issues to the proper personnel. Performs proactive security activities and responds to calls for service as appropriate. Attends meetings involving any emergency or security issues. Monitors activity in person and via the security cameras. Escorts inmates between the jail and court holding. Supervises inmates while in court holding. Maintains safety at the courthouse by assisting at the Point of Entry. Answers phones and monitors courtroom security cameras at the court security desk. Monitor radio and respond to calls for service or emergencies as needed. Provides courtroom security and decorum as directed by supervisor. Performs proactive security activities and responds to calls for service as appropriate. Utilizes appropriate restraints, escort, and supervision procedures when dealing with inmates. Transports prisoners to the county jail. Work Environment Work is performed in a county office building, court holding facility, hospital facility, and transport vehicles. Travel is required. Lifting 10 to 50 pounds daily, carrying 25 pounds daily, pushing/pulling/lifting over 100 pounds weekly. Standing or walking 8 to 12 hours daily. Running and kneeling frequently in response to emergencies or disturbances. Exposure to disagreeable odors (e.g., body odors, dirty clothing, human feces), body fluids, hazardous chemicals, communicable diseases (e.g., TB, hepatitis, AIDS), mentally unstable individuals, and individuals under the influence of controlled substances. Exposure to atmospheric conditions such as fumes, odors, dust, gases, and poor ventilation; hazardous materials such as chemicals, blood, and other body fluids. Equipment used may include but is not limited to, a computer, printer, telephone, calculator, 2-way radios, body-worn camera, chemical agents, handcuffs, restraints, copy and fax machines, alco sensor, first aid kit, defibrillator, oxygen, and Minnesota Rule 2911.
