Position Purpose:

The Security Sergeant is responsible for the daily operation of assigned shift and performance of assigned Security Officers. Provides necessary training and orientation to Hospital and contract colleagues in safety and security matters. Conducts necessary inspection, writes reports, and alerts the Lieutenant of areas or issues that need attention. Assures compliance with Hospital and regulatory policies and procedures.

What you will do:

  • Oversees activities of subordinate personnel engaged in providing safety and security of all persons and property for patients, visitors, and colleagues. Routinely inspects and responds appropriately so the facilities and grounds are safe for all patients, visitors, and colleagues.

  • Monitors all in-house and contract security personnel for the standards of appearance, deportment, training, and performance and takes appropriate steps to ensure compliance with standards laid down in the Hospital's policies, procedures, directives, and the contractor’s written Standard Operating Procedure and contract.

  • Assures implementation of Hospital-wide Security and Safety program. Recommends changes to policies and procedures as necessary in order to increase safety and to ensure compliance with regulations established by outside agencies.

  • As directed by Lieutenant, trains hospital or contracted colleagues as necessary. Assists Lieutenant with evaluating the performance of the contract and non-contracted colleagues. As guided by the Lieutenant, takes appropriate steps to make sure the contractor is adhering to the agreed-on terms and conditions of the contract.

  • Routinely inspects hospital premises in order to ensure observance of safety and security regulations. Reports violations to appropriate departmental personnel for correction.

  • Conducts and documents monthly audit of campus facilities and grounds in accordance with Joint Commission standards for inspections and to assess the effectiveness and operational functioning of all security systems and procedures.

  • Has knowledge of all safety/security codes and alarms and properly responds to codes and alarms in a timely manner and taking appropriate action.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • One (1) to three (3) years of previous healthcare security experience in a related setting.

  • Crisis Prevention Institute certification required upon hire or must obtain within one (1) year of employment through internal certification program.

  • Knowledge of PC based applications in a Windows environment.

  • Valid driver’s license required to drive hospital vehicles.

  • Excellent customer services skills. Ability to think and act quickly to de-escalate hostile situations.

Physical and Mental Requirements and Working conditions:

  • Must be able to set and organize own work priorities and adapt to them as they change frequently. Must be able to work concurrently on a variety of tasks/projects in an environment that may be stressful with individuals having diverse personalities and work styles.

  • Must possess the ability to comply with Trinity Health policies and procedures.

  • Must be able to lift 11-24 lbs., carry 11-24 lbs., push/pull 35-40 lbs.

  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.

  • Must be able to walk/run half (1/2) mile.
