SSRE is structured with two primary category management teams, Technology & Outsourcing and Non-IT categories including Professional and Corporate Services, Marketing, HR and Claims and Legal Services. We operate as advisors with our customers to positively impact business strategy; while optimizing the way we use third parties to meet enterprise and business unit objectives comprehensively.

OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE:

The Assistant Director, Category Management for Corporate Services and Real Estate will be responsible for developing and executing the category and sourcing strategies for real estate and corporate services spend for the Enterprise, managing annual spend of approximately $120M. This role works closely with the leads of the Corporate Real Estate and Corporate Services teams and requires experience working with vendors supporting real estate capital projects, real estate operations and corporate services programs (print, travel, corporate card, records storage, etc.) as well as experience developing and driving enterprise-wide sourcing strategies. This role reports to the AVP, Category Management, Professional Services Team.

This role will have a Hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation of working in the Hartford, CT office 3 days a week (primarily Tuesday through Thursday).

Responsibilities:

  • Function as an advisor to the Real Estate and Corporate Services leaders through the category management, sourcing and contracting journey

  • Drive significant reductions in cost within the category, focusing on all levers that drive value including demand and supply opportunities

  • Develop and implement best practices within this category

  • Lead sourcing events and develop supplier negotiation strategies that optimize spend, reflect and maximize The Hartford’s buying power, focus on service quality/performance and minimize risk exposure

  • Bring thought leadership and experience of working with relevant vendors to optimize spend and deliver value to stakeholders

  • Lead complex, highly visible negotiations with major vendors, negotiating key terms, and working with various stakeholders from legal, information protection, risk management, etc. to draft and execute contracts

  • Drive sourcing model maturity based on industry best practices and The Hartford’s operating model changes

  • Utilize Procurement technology to facilitate the end-to-end Procurement Lifecycle

  • Manage new & existing legacy contracts and drive standards/best practices for assigned spend

  • Evaluate and introduce new suppliers with innovative, cost cutting or disruptive technologies

  • Aggressively manage category performance by adhering to internal savings goals and reviewing financial models for commodity type items

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree required along with relevant experience. Advanced degree (JD, Master's in procurement/supply chain, business, engineering, or related field) or equivalent experience is a plus.

  • Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years in strategic sourcing with specific experience in Real Estate and Corporate Services. Successful track record in Procurement with experience developing and executing category strategies and reviewing, analyzing, drafting and negotiating contracts.

  • Experience leading market analysis and intelligence gathering

  • Experience leading market analysis and intelligence gathering across relevant categories to support successful strategy development

  • Skills:

  • Deep expertise in contract drafting, negotiation and analysis

  • Excellent relationship management skills with the ability to work with and influence stakeholders at all levels in the organization

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Ability to independently interact with stakeholder teams and provide consultative guidance.

  • Outcome oriented with experience driving results in an environment of change

  • Strong packaging and presentation skills with the ability to analyze and explain pricing models, benefits and contract terms

  • Technical Proficiency: Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required. Experience using Coupa, or other Source to Pay system, is a plus.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$95,280 - $142,920
