Title and Summary

Vice President, Leadership Development

Overview:

We are seeking a Vice President of Leadership Development to reimagine, elevate and scale how we develop our leaders to be impactful and inspiring culture carriers of our organization.

This role will lead and oversee the vision, strategy and execution of developing our executive leaders, middle and front-line managers, and high potential talent. This role will also have enterprise-wide ownership of how to build the skillsets and drive the behavioral changes that enable living out our culture (the Mastercard Way), leading and navigating change, developing teams, and developing as professionals.

The ideal candidate will be a visionary leader with a strong track record of reimagining, innovating and pushing the envelope on how organizations traditionally approach executive, leadership, and HiPo development. They must also have a relentless focus on the end-user experience and practical application that is grounded in the realities of what our executives, leaders and employees face day-to-day and the impacts they need to drive for the company. To this end, they will raise the bar for what it means to be learner-centric and have a strong focus on where our learners want to go in their career and their ‘jobs to be done.’

The candidate must be an experienced people leader who has led teams through a wide range of circumstances. They must have deep self-awareness of their own strengths and development areas as a leader and have demonstrated observable progress in deepening and expanding their leadership capacity.

The candidate must also be a visible and org-savvy leader who is skilled in navigating global, matrixed organizations and engaging and influencing a broad set of stakeholders with competing demands and different perspectives.

Role:

• Partner with business leaders and HR partners to develop and implement a compelling, comprehensive and integrated leadership development strategy. This strategy should align with Mastercard’s growth objectives and include a multi-year implementation roadmap

• Lead a team of Leadership Development Directors, Program Managers, Designers and Delivery Specialists in designing, building, implementing and monitoring learner-centric, outcome-driven and scalable solutions for Mastercard’s executive leaders, middle managers, front-line managers, and high potential talent

• Develop and implement an enterprise-wide coaching strategy that is anchored on optimizing the impact of coaching and providing a suite of coaching providers that can meet a wide range of needs across the organization

• Lead the build out of a comprehensive suite of team effectiveness solutions, including managing external offerings and creating a robust library of in-house resources

• Develop and implement the learning strategy and plan focused on building change management capabilities across leaders, employees and HR partners

• Develop and implement the learning strategy to strengthen the behaviors, skills and practices essential to living and promoting our culture, the Mastercard Way

• Oversee and optimize the budget and portfolio of learning assets managed by the Leadership Academy, with a relentless focus on maximizing return on investment and resource allocation

• Bring in external and forward-looking perspectives on the evolution of leadership in an increasingly connected and complex world

• Lead with a collaborative, inclusive, and innovative mindset, embedding the Mastercard Way into all leadership development initiatives and fostering a culture of continuous improvement

Skills and Qualifications:

• Extensive experience in learning, development, and talent management, particularly in leadership roles, with a proven ability to reimagine and innovate traditional approaches to leadership development.

• Experience in effectively influencing senior leaders and collaborating closely within HR and across all functions

• Demonstrated organizational savvy and expertise in navigating and thriving within complex, matrixed environments, with a keen understanding of how to manage competing demands and perspectives.

• Effective people leader with a strong track record of inspiring, motivating and developing a high performing team

• Experience in negotiating with vendors and holding them to account

• Robust global event management and presentation skills (in-person as well as virtual)

• Strong communications skills and creative mindset

• Culture builder and employee experience expert – passionate about fostering an inclusive and diverse workplace

• Ability to build strong and trusted relationships with senior HR team as a strategic advisor on leadership development

Pay range:

$169,000-270,000

In line with Mastercard’s total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary based on location, experience and other qualifications for the role and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role.
