JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Penn State Harrisburg, a comprehensive college of The Pennsylvania State University, invites applications for a research faculty position at the Assistant or Associate rank. This position will establish and enhance strategic partnerships for economic and regional initiatives, leading innovative research projects that support regional development and policymaking. The role involves fostering relationships with local stakeholders, including government, community organizations, and private sector partners. This is a term funded position.

This is a 48-week non-tenure appointment in one of Penn State Harrisburg's five academic schools, determined by the candidate's expertise and background. The position is supported by the Institute of State and Regional Affairs (ISRA), which unites Penn State faculty and professional staff to conduct research and provide data services in public policy, community planning, information management, and evaluation. Annually, ISRA secures $3-$4 million in sponsored research funding from state, federal, philanthropic, and private sponsors. Job Description:

Develop and implement a strategic plan for establishing and nurturing effective regional research partnerships.

Identify and pursue grant opportunities to fund research and development projects in collaboration with partners.

Oversee and coordinate research activities, ensuring alignment with the strategic goals of ISRA and Penn State Harrisburg.

Lead as Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator on collaborative research projects, setting project goals and managing project deliverables.

Facilitate interdisciplinary research approaches that combine insights from economic development, public health, and related fields.

Engage with policymakers, business leaders, and community advocates to translate research findings into actionable strategies and policies.

Promote the visibility and impact of the partnership initiatives through publications, conferences, and public engagements.

Typical Experience:

Extensive experience in developing and managing regional partnerships and collaborative research projects.

Demonstrated expertise in areas such as economic development, regional planning, or rural health.

Proven track record of successful grant writing and project funding.

Strong leadership skills and the ability to inspire and manage diverse teams.

Excellent communication skills, capable of effectively negotiating and advocating for partnership projects.

Position Level and Requirements: This position will be filled at the Assistant or Associate rank.

Assistant Research Professor: Must possess a terminal degree or its equivalent in an academic field related to their research and must demonstrate ability as a researcher and show evidence of professional growth and scholarship in their discipline.

Associate Research Professor: Must possess a terminal degree or its equivalent in an academic field related to their research and must demonstrate exceptional ability as a researcher, including success in securing external funding, and show evidence of professional growth and scholarship.

The individual will also possess strong interpersonal communication and relationship-building skills, grant and technical writing expertise, experience in research, public policy, public administration, sociology, data sciences, or related fields, and supervisory experience of staff at different levels. Additional duties include developing relationship management strategies to identify and pursue research opportunities and promote the University's resources and services. Preference will be given to candidates with a proven record of interdisciplinary collaboration and experience working with academic units.
