This is an entry level position in the Executive Accounting Series.  The Office of Comptroller Operations is supportive of career growth opportunities and candidates in this job title may be promoted into an Executive Accounting Specialist upon successful completion of a probationary period and at least one year as an Accounting Associate.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As an Accounting Associate, you will exercise a wide range of responsibility which will include duties in administration and planning, regulatory compliance, operational management, and external collaboration.  Work will involve providing assistance with the preparation of financial statements, special reports, and detailed analysis which will require research.  Some of the agencies you will work with include the Department of Community and Economic Development, Department of Transportation, Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority, and the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency.  We are looking for someone who possesses a comprehensive knowledge of financial reporting and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and is able to independently achieve work responsibilities.

Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment Work hours are 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch. Telework: You may be expected to work from home (telework) full-time, with occasional in-office days when work dictates such requirements.  Please keep in mind that while this is a full-time telework position, that can change at any time at the Governor's discretion.  You must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.  If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. You will be required to report to headquarters, located at 555 Walnut Street in Harrisburg, to pick up your equipment and attend periodic meetings at your expense. Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Three years as an Accounting Assistant (commonwealth title) and completion of 21 college credits in accounting and an additional 3 credits in finance or accounting; or Two years as a Fiscal Technician (commonwealth title) and completion of 21 college credits in accounting and an additional 3 credits in finance or accounting; or A bachelor's degree including 21 credits in accounting and an additional 3 credits in finance or accounting; or An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes 21 college credits in accounting and an additional 3 credits in finance or accounting. Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
