Job Description

The Food Service Aide will transport lunches and assist in the classrooms with lunch duties as needed. The Food Service Aide will provide classroom coverage for teaching staff for required breaks. The Food Service Aide also prepares the food to be served to the children and distributes it in to family style serving dishes.

Education and Experience:

High school diploma/GED

Willing to attend the Broome County Health Department for Food Safety.

Service Sanitation Training Certificate.

Valid NYS driver’s license.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Duties/Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Shop for and deliver food and supplies as needed.

  2. Shop and prepare for food project requests from staff.

  3. Picks up lunch and deliver it to the center.

  4. Washes, peels, cuts, and seeds vegetables and fruits.

  5. Heats and prepare special food when necessary.

  6. Weighs and measures designated ingredients.

  7. Assists children with setting tables, serving food, and performing other lunch time duties.

  8. Guide children to set tables, pass food, and practice good table manners according to early childhood practices.

  9. Wash dishes, if applicable.

  10. Returns dishes and equipment after lunch.

  11. Carries pans, kettles, and trays of food to and from work stations, stove, and refrigerator.

  12. Stores foods in designated areas.

  13. Maintains kitchen and food preparation areas, including sink, refrigerator, small appliances, and storage areas as needed on a daily and weekly basis.

  14. Cleans work areas, equipment and utensils, segregates and removes garbage, and cleans garbage containers.

  15. Distributes supplies, utensils, and portable equipment.

  16. Practice and maintain good sanitation practices, including Food and Nutrition Quality Assurance Forms.

  17. Complete paperwork in accordance to Head Start and CACFP guidelines.

  18. Communicate with local school district cafeteria Staff.

  19. Call in lunch count daily.

  20. Plan ahead for lunches, breakfasts, and snacks as needed.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee is frequently required to walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
