This site Purchasing functional leadership role is part of a network of site and global counterparts to drive worldclass supply of required materials to our expanding commercial and clinical manufacturing operations. The Purchasing team is responsible for executing site and corporate goals with a focus on ensuring sustainable supply of materials engaging in pricing control, supplier contracting, focused supplier relationship management, and process improvement/guidance. The department helps keep the organization financially healthy by procuring goods and services designed to meet operational needs while providing the highest possible value.

The Director of Purchasing is responsible for site purchasing leadership. Ensuring the site buying team executes global strategy and category management in sourcing and procuring materials, services, and capital for the Maryland sites. The Director of Purchasing leads the site Purchasing team and initiates and fosters relationships with global and site stakeholders, establishing and prioritizing activities for his/her team to achieve objectives and results. This person will also lead site level initiatives for supplier management, quality, and performance improvement, as well assist in the expanded utilization of our JD Edwards ERP tool. This role will be critical as we redesign processes and system to further our world class journey. Managing through change is an important skill set within this role

The Role:

  • Lead team members through MRP order placement (Expediting and de-expediting) as required to achieve EBITDA goals.

  • Develop and coach site buying team members and takes responsibility for direct reports’ performance by setting clear goals and expectations, tracking progress against the goals, ensuring constructive feedback, and addressing performance-related concerns and issues promptly.

  • Minimize impact of supplier shortages by proactively identifying and resolving potential material supply issues, timely communication, collaborating with Supply Chain for inventory build, and proper escalation.

  • Increase spend under contract. Negotiate supply agreements with vendors improving commercial conditions. Ensure suppliers adhere to the terms and conditions specified on the purchase order and resolve challenges; implement the Procurement guidelines on site and contribute to its local deployment.

  • Comply with and follow all procedures within the company Environmental, Health, Safety, & Security (EHS&S) and Global Trade policies.

  • Integrate with GPO, including Category Management, Supplier Relationship Management, Capital, CSR/D&I, and PMO to ensure regions are aligned with GPO initiatives.

  • Partner with Category leadership to develop and execute strategies for the categories that he/she participates in or leads, globally or regionally that creates value to Catalent and meets customers’ expectations.

  • Partner with Engineering and Global CapEx Category Management for RFP, supplier selection, negotiation, and contract execution.

  • Partner with Finance to define and implement annual budget and monthly forecasting, develop a PPV process.

  • Ensure proper level of material availability working closely with site planning.

  • Develop pipeline of opportunities (savings, cash flow, growth, other value) for site, representing local, regional, and global initiatives.

  • Through a collaborative team, coordinate and drive RFP’s/RFI’s process for regional and global initiatives. Invite suppliers to provide solutions and cost proposals for Catalent business requirements, evaluate proposals, make supplier recommendations, select suppliers, award business, and handle contracts for key stakeholders.

  • Build and manage the portfolio of purchasing projects and develop sourcing strategies aligned to stakeholder needs.

  • Other duties as assigned.

The Candidate:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Materials Management, Engineering, or related field. Master’s degree a plus.

  • 8+ years of experience in Procurement, Supply Chain, Strategic Sourcing, or related field.

  • Previous experience working in the biologics or pharma industry preferred.

  • Experience working in formal ERP environments (JD Edwards a large plus).

  • Experience in Contract and Supplier Agreements.

  • Collaborative, strong relationship builder with a proven track record of establishing and maintaining effective internal and external customer/supplier relationships.

  • Requires adaptability, analyzing, assessing, calculating, decision making, dependability, good judgment, reading, memorizing, social skills, speaking, stress control, writing.

  • Ability to manage time effectively to complete assignments in expected time frame and independently seek out additional work when tasks are completed ahead of time.

  • Strong ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and ability to effectively carry out and implement change.

  • Demonstrable leadership experience at Catalent (including but not limited to participation in Catalent-sponsored leadership programs such as NGGL, GOLD, LEAD Now, GM Excellence, and GROW) may be considered in place of external experience.
