Job Description

Insight Global is seeking a highly skilled, energetic, dynamic, and passionate Space Mission Concepts Engineer to join a Research, Science, and Engineering Services organization onsite at NASA in Hampton, VA. This person will help to lead the technical support teach and bring multi-disciplinary analysis experience to R&D activities. This is a pivotal role in shaping the future of space exploration with a focus on groundbreaking projects such as ARTEMIS and the Human Lander System. As a Steward of innovation and engineering excellence you will play a key role in developing the concepts that will enable humans to explore the moon, mars, and beyond. This Role requires the ability to configure relevant analysis models from various analytic, computational, parametric, and multi-disciplinary tools. The selected candidate will extract insights from those results to substantiate independent assessments of space vehicle systems, mission architectures, and concepts of operations. An ideal candidate will have a strong background in systems modeling within the human spaceflight and science exploration contexts, experience developing analysis tools and the use of tools in mission, campaign, and portfolio analysis. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills combined with an entrepreneurial and ambitious energy. This role will offer a unique chance to be at the forefront of space exploration and contribute to missions that will help to write history. We are seeking someone that can help uncover futuristic space concepts, or space ideas & capabilities, contribute to the development of multiple space mission campaigns that help to realize those ideas, and someone that can lead the management of the design, build, integration, test, and operations of said missions. Overall responsibilities include:

 Perform space systems modeling and analysis of science and human exploration portfolios for NASA.

 Select and apply tools and methods to characterize, assess, and optimize strategies defined within these portfolios.

 Aid in the design, development, and maintenance of tools and methods for continuance of future assessments of exploration portfolios.

 Produce/maintain documentation and report on development, management needs and observations, and configuration control of tools and analysis produced.

 Embrace and enhance knowledge management and innovation within a diverse team of colleagues and external customers.

Pay Range for this role is between 65K- 125K/year

Skills and Requirements

B.S. or M.S. in Aerospace Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering (with Aerospace Concentration) or equivalent.

 Minimum of 5 years of engineering and concept development experience.

 Proven Experience with Space Vehicle Systems. EX: Launch Vehicle used to carry spacecraft from Earth to Space, Crewed and Uncrewed Spacecraft Vehicles, Orbiters, Landers and Rovers, Space Stations, Space Probes, or Space Exploration Vehicles.

 Understanding and experience with Space Mission Architecture (Space, Launch, Ground)

 Understanding of Space Systems Communications, Positioning & Navigation (POV/NAV), Weather Systems, Remote Sensing, Propulsion, Thermal, and/or Power Systems

 Experience with Space and Human Exploration Projects

 Multidisciplinary Design Analysis and Optimization Experience (MDAO)

 Experience in aerospace engineering that imparts a level of expertise sufficient for creating, modifying, and executing multi-disciplinary design and analysis models.

 Proficient use of programming tools such as MATLAB, Python, R.

 Experience with Requirement Verification (DOORS)

 Excellent written and oral technical communication skills.

 Demonstrated experience mentoring, teaching, leading small teams.

 Demonstrated leadership roles within projects or teams.

 Ability to address technical and personnel concerns, together with management. Participation in RASC-AL

 Experience supporting the Space Mission Analysis Branch of NASA
