Job Summary:

The Industrial Gas Turbine (IGT) Continuous Improvement Manager is responsible for organization, planning, implementation and follow-through of continuous improvement initiatives established within the company’s operating model: The Continuous Improvement Manager drives and leads a wide range of activities that are designed to improve on-time delivery, productivity, quality, cost, manufacturing, safety, engineering, forecasting, and environmental performance.

Essential Functions:

  • Works with location leadership to drive continuous improvement activities and waste elimination: Identifies, proposes and implements new productivity improvements.

  • Leads Manufacturing, Process Owners and Industrial Engineering activities to support operations excellence in IGT operations.

  • Responsible for QSI cost analysis, manufacturing cost analysis, capacity, labor quoting and forecasting

  • Facilitates and drives the 5-year Hoshin with advanced manufacturing for IGT.

  • Facilitates successful kaizen and rapid improvement process events with both internal and external consultants, customers and suppliers, with a major emphasis on locally focused improvement. Provides the support all follow- through required to sustain the improvements established during the events.

  • Coordinates and delivers team-based and continuous improvement training to support enhanced organizational performance through imparting a thorough knowledge of team and continuous improvement concepts, principles, and practices.

  • Facilitates, reviews and aids locations in developing Hoshin IGT plans.

  • Serves as internal consultant and catalyst to assist individuals and teams in the application of continuous improvement principles and techniques to improve operations. May provide external consulting services to other company or supplier operations.

  • Coaches and supports leadership at all levels in meeting business improvement metrics through the application of continuous improvement methods and techniques. Establishes reporting methods to track progress and communication processes to inform the organization of results and opportunities.

  • Facilitates consistent, uniform approaches for visual controls and productivity measurements to be utilized throughout product teams and the factory.

  • Assists manufacturing leaders in team skill and knowledge development to support meeting management goals, project management, improvements, results measurements, problem solving, and related team skills.

  • Provides guidance and consultation focusing on the perfection of continuous improvement techniques. Identify opportunities for improvements, continually evaluate results, and sustain performance gains.

  • Directs and leads manufacturing analyst in capacity and forecasting.

  • Ensures that all work activities are performed in accordance with established safety and environmental standards.

  • Maintains full compliance with Company policies and procedures and conducts all activities in accordance with the Howmet Aerospace Guide to Business Conduct.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Skills and Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of lean manufacturing, productivity improvements, cost analysis, forecasting, capacity and rapid improvement techniques

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills

  • Must be able to prepare and deliver effective presentations

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution

  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in manufacturing work environment

  • Minimum of 5 years' Continuous Improvement experience in a manufacturing environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Highly structured and formal education and training in Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement

  • A technical degree is preferred

  • Manufacturing experience in Investment Castings strongly preferred

  • Demonstrated ability to lead managers and employees in driving change initiatives with diverse groups

  • Solid problem-solving skills and the ability to train and lead others (A3/5Why/Kaizen/Process Management/TPM, etc.)

  • Solid understanding of continuous improvement and/or Toyota Production System and the ability to teach/mentor others

  • Good computer analytical skills (turn data into information)

  • Minimum of 5 years of in driving for results and or continuous improvement activities within a leadership capacity

  • Dynamic people skills, ability to interact with audiences at all levels within the organization

  • Continuous Improvement certification Level 2 or completion within 18 months of role
