Quinnipiac University Theater Technical Assistant (Part-Time, Temporary) in Hamden, Connecticut

Overview: Quinnipiac's College of Arts & Sciences seeks applications for a part-time, temporary, non-benefit-eligible Theater Technical Assistant assists the Technical Director with the implementation of all technical aspects of theater program events in the QU Theater Arts Center. The Technical Assistant helps to train and supervise students in carpentry, lighting, and other production activities, and assists with all load-in and strike activities. The rate is $30/hour, and this position will not exceed 19 hours per week.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with training and supervision of student workers and volunteers

  • Assist with load-in and strike of all theater events. This includes:

  • Mentoring student assistants in lighting and sound engineering/programming

  • Managing paperwork from designers, confirming inventory and creating DMX plots

  • Assisting Technical Director in supervision of load-in and focus calls

  • Patching and troubleshooting lighting and sound systems

  • Assist Technical Director in organizing and maintaining shop, theater spaces, and equipment as necessary

    Education Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • Bachelor's degree preferred

    Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of professional experience in theater technical management

  • Demonstrable skills in technical design and set construction, lighting, sound, rigging and CAD.

  • Patience and enthusiasm to work with students both in and out of the classroom

  • Ability to thrive in high pressure, deadline-oriented environments

  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations and a commitment to diversity and inclusion
