Quinnipiac University Full-Time Teaching Faculty: Criminal Justice in Hamden, Connecticut

Overview:

The Department of Justice and Law in the College of Arts and Sciences at Quinnipiac University is seeking a dynamic and student-centered Criminal Justice faculty to teach at the undergraduate level and to support a graduate-level certificate currently under development. Applicants from a variety of criminal justice disciplines will be considered for this full-time teaching position, with a strong preference for those who have expertise in alternatives to incarceration, innovations in crime prevention and/or mental health and crime. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor (or Instructor, depending on educational credentials) of Criminal Justice with expectations for teaching, advising students, and engaging in service activities and committees that strengthen the program, department, college, and university community. The anticipated start date is Fall 2025.

The Department of Justice and Law includes programs in Legal Studies/Law in Society, Criminal Justice, and Justice and Community Engagement. This collaborative and student-centered department has a strong sense of community, with faculty committed to expanding both curricular and cocurricular engagement, and to working together in both teaching and research.

Depending on the background and qualifications of the successful candidate, this position may support teaching other classes in our interdisciplinary department, including our majors in Justice and Community Engagement, and in Law and Society.

Students can also complete a 5-year BA/BS and MA in Teaching in the following secondary education fields: Biology, English, History, and Math.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach the Introduction to Criminal Justice and Research Methods courses, as well as others that support the Criminal Justice Major (including developing new courses within area of specialization)

  • Teach courses that support the majors in Legal Studies and Justice and Community Engagement

  • Support the development of a gradual-level certificate in Criminal Justice and teach courses that will support this new program.

  • Hold regular office hours for students

  • Guide, advise, and mentor students academically and professionally

  • Engage in service to support the program, department, college and university, which includes attending weekly department meetings and other university meetings as required

Education Requirements:

  • A terminal degree in criminal justice (or related field) is preferred and required at the time of employment to be hired at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor

  • Candidates with a master’s degree in criminal justice (or closely related field) are eligible to be hired at the rank of Instructor

Qualifications:

  • Ability to effectively teach undergraduate and graduate level courses

  • Ability to teach the Introduction to Criminal Justice and Research Methods courses

  • Commitment to participating in a collaborative teaching environment

  • Commitment to inclusive teaching and community

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated success in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels

  • Ability to develop and teach courses that address the issues of race, ethnicity, gender, and/or socioeconomic class in criminal justice
