The Ambulance Billing Coordinator is responsible for handling all patient files including billing and insurance information, corrections, and updates.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of an Ambulance Billing Coordinator at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Reviews all clinical documentation from Emergency Medical Services operations.

  • Assures that all insurers have been billed properly and reviews all insurance forms.

  • Reviews and corrects all errors on edit reports from billing system.

  • Corrects any posting errors (changes, payments, and adjustments).

  • Updates patient account information as per insurance companies or patients.

  • Possesses knowledge of coding procedures and regulations regarding reimbursement.

  • Accurately applies billing codes to all billable accounts.

  • Assists in special projects or work overflow when requested by supervisor or manager

  • Follows procedures and policies set by the department in the use of the billing system.

  • Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.

  • Medical billing experience.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  • Certified Ambulance Coding certification.

  • Ambulance billing experience.
