Job Description:

Western Colorado University invites applications for the full-time position of Academic Advisor & Exploratory Program Coordinator. The position reports to the Associate Director of Registration and Advising Services with primary focus on academic advising for student retention and completion.

Responsibilities:

The Academic Advisor position is responsible for supporting academic success and promoting best practices that assist with student retention, timely persistence to graduation, as well as professional outcomes during attendance and after graduation. The position must be familiar with administrative policies and procedures and be knowledgeable of required curriculum for various programs of study (majors, minors, certificates, etc.). The Advisor coordinates major discovery, degree planning and advising for a variety of academic programs and offers services that promote holistic student success. The Advisor administers placement and competency-based testing. The Advisor assesses and analyzes data to implement evidence based initiatives and best practices that improve retention. This position assists with new student registration and overall Registration and Advising Services functions/services.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor s degree. Ability to work with a diverse student population. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Ability to work independently and take initiative. Comfortable with public speaking, workshop facilitation and training. One to two years student support or related Higher Education experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Degree in a related field. Knowledge of student success strategies and best practices. Experience with assessment. Working knowledge of LMS (Banner, Workday, DegreeWorks, etc). Academic advising or counseling experience.

Compensation:

$42,000-45,000 per year depending on experience. FLSA exempt. Position is eligible for an excellent benefits package including health and dental insurance plans with low co-pays and low out of pocket maximums, generous paid time off, a shared contribution retirement plan, and, following one year of employment, tuition benefits.
