Direct Support Float - ALL SHIFTS
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides individuals in community-based program with support services designed to promote the self-determination, independence, productivity, integration and inclusion in community. Accomplishes this through culturally competent programs aimed at teaching new skills in the areas of self-care, managing behavior, community integration and other activities of daily living. This is carried out with respect and dignity and in accordance with Journey Found policies and procedures.
As a Direct Support Specialist Float the responsibilities described below are carried out in any and/or all of the programs in a cluster under the direction of a Director of Support Services. Travel to the various programs within the cluster is expected [ Mystic, Groton, Niantic, Norwich, Pawcatuck]. The Float position is scheduled a month at time to allow for coverage of most days and all shifts as program needs in the cluster dictate. The schedule is subject to change based on programmatic needs.
Fundamental functions of the position:
• Supporting individuals with activities of daily living (getting dressed, cooking, cleaning, bathing, toileting etc.)
• Transporting people
• Organizing activities and community outings
• Medication administration
• Doctors’ appointments
• Documenting Program Data
• Teaching and engaging
• Implementing good routines
• Helping in decision making process
• Grocery shopping and running errands
• Deescalating situations and managing behaviors
• Workings as part of a collective team
• Communicating professionally with Nurses, Clinical Staff, Directors and Supervisors

Qualifications
Must have at least a High School Diploma or its equivalent
Must have at least 3 years driving experience with a valid driver’s license
Behavioral Management Experience and/or formal training preferred
Basic Computer Skills
Ability to communicate, both orally and in writing
Will be required to be PMT, CPR, FA and complete DDS Medication Administration Program (MAP)
Must be free from communicable disease
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The ability to move independently throughout a wide range of environments, some of which may not be wheelchair or otherwise handicapped accessible, is required. Independent transportation to locations that may not be served by public transportation may be necessary.
