ABOUT THE ROLE

Honeywell Aerospace Technologies is seeking an Advanced Lab Engineer to support the Materials Engineering and analytical lab activities with the Greer Materials Engineering organization.

The role will interface with multiple functional groups and engineering levels across the Greer site as well as other Honeywell locations. In this role, they will also look for ways to continually improve that lab processes while still maintaining quality and integrity of the process. The candidate will act as the site knowledge expert for metallurgical testing, metallography, and other metallurgical issues relating to coatings such as diffusion, metallic, and thermal barrier coatings.

RESPONSIBILITIES

In this Lab Engineer role, the candidate will assume responsibility for daily testing requirements, develop into an SCA/audit focal, maintain lab procedures, and develop a vision for the future of the lab. Typical tools include metallurgical sample preparation equipment, SEM, and optical microscopy. The candidate will be responsible for maintaining laboratory standard work procedures and ensuring testing is being performed according to standard procedures. In addition, the candidate will be expected to develop a working knowledge of plating processes and analytical chemistry to provide back-up support in this area.

U.S. PERSON REQUIREMENTS

Due to compliance with U.S. export control laws and regulations, candidate must be a U.S. Person, which is defined as, a U.S. citizen, a U.S. permanent resident, or have protected status in the U.S. under asylum or refugee status or have the ability to obtain an export authorization.

MUST HAVE

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as the sciences, technology, engineering or mathematics.

  • At least 5 years of applicable industry experience as a lab/materials engineer

WE VALUE

  • B.S. Degree in Materials Science or Metallurgy. Other engineering disciplines will be considered with appropriate experience

  • Direct experience with metallography

  • Direct experience with coatings/coating processes (diffusion, metallic thermal barrier)

  • Experience with laboratory quality system and audit processes

  • Excellent communication skills – verbal and written

  • Strong computer skills, especially Microsoft Excel and Word

  • Thrives in a dynamic and changing environment

  • Ability to work with a team to complete daily tasks

  • Attention to detail

  • Works independently with minimal direction
