Job Description:

Under general supervision, gathers, compiles and analyzes transportation demographic, economic, land use and/or environmental data including traffic counters, flow data, etc. to create basic to moderate complexity modeling for existing and proposed transportation systems (roads; bridges; highways; tunnels; tolls; transit; rail; freight; aviation; bike/ped.; etc.). Reviews existing models and recommends improvements/changes as necessary. Leverages transportation systems, models, simulations and data to prepare basic to moderate complexity studies of existing or proposed transportation system including: new systems; upgrades or updates to existing systems; re-routing of systems; reviews of existing systems; etc. Creates transportation surveys, exhibits, and other meeting materials as necessary, to identify areas of public concern and facilitate public and stakeholder input. Leads and performs traffic count and safety studies. Reviews proposed transportation project sites for alignment with draft designs and plans. Reviews transportation plans for compliance/consistency with applicable local, state and federal laws. Escalates any legal compliance issues as necessary. Performs other duties as required. Collaborates with engineers to research, analyze or resolve transportation conceptual/schematic design issues.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Urban, Community or Regional Planning or related discipline. 1 year of related experience. Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Skills and Abilities:

Basic knowledge of principles and methods for moving people or goods by all transportation modes, and understanding of current transportation trends/issues. Basic knowledge of government regulations, and agency rules. Basic knowledge of the practical application of regional and community planning. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, models, and equipment to study and/or design of movement of people, goods and services. Good written and oral communication skills.

Background Check and Drug Testing Information:

CDM Smith Inc. and its divisions and subsidiaries (hereafter collectively referred to as “CDM Smith”) reserves the right to require background checks including criminal, employment, education, licensure, etc. as well as credit and motor vehicle when applicable for certain positions. In addition, CDM Smith may conduct drug testing for designated positions. Background checks are conducted after an offer of employment has been made in the United States. The timing of when background checks will be conducted on candidates for positions outside the United States will vary based on country statutory law but in no case, will the background check precede an interview. In addition, during employment individuals may be required by CDM Smith or a CDM Smith client to successfully complete additional background checks, including motor vehicle record as well as drug testing.

Additional Compensation:

All bonuses at CDM Smith are discretionary and may or may not apply to this position.
