SCADA Technician

Department: Facilities Maintenance

Reports To: Facilities Maintenance Supervisor

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

JOB SUMMARY

The purpose of this classification is to perform preventive and corrective maintenance and repairs on electronic and control equipment used and operated at water treatment plants, pump stations and telemetering stations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Performs preventive and corrective maintenance on all SCADA equipment applyingknowledge of computers, PLC's, radios and wiring utilized in the network.
  • Implements new installations of equipment from electrical, electronic controllers, transmitters, client devices, and peripherals etc.
  • Practices oversite for the information security of the SCADA network.
  • Coordinates needs for additional support with the IT department.
  • Performs preventive maintenance and repairs of electrical components and systems, including but not limited to relays, motor drives, electrical and manual valve operators.
  • Performsprecise, accurate, calibration of instruments as well as repair/replacement
  • Provides project estimates, including equipment, materials, and costs.
  • Manages and troubleshoots HMI, Servers, PLC, and other equipment programs/software.
  • Forecast future needs for technology on the SCADA network, and maintains a disciplined service methodology for maintaining the lifecycle of IT equipment.
  • Maintains knowledge of support, maintenance and troubleshooting of thin client technology to support SCADA.
  • Maintains a change management log of all system changes, and submits reports accordingly.
  • Reviews flow charts, pressure charts, etc., to monitor equipment performance
  • Maintains an adequate inventory of tools, parts and equipment
  • Maintains up to date programs and copies of system equipment.
  • Provides daily reconciliations, including work orders, requisitions, and purchase orders.
  • Must be able to adequately read and interpret electrical and mechanical diagrams.
  • Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor, co-workers, other department supervisors and employees, engineers, contractors, other government agencies, City/County personnel, sales and service representatives, and the general public.
  • Assists in training new employees in maintenance procedures.
  • Maintains HMI's at Water Treatment Plants.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
  • On call 24 hours per day.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A High School Diploma or GED, supplemented by five (5) years of experience in maintenance of Instrumentation and Controls or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Knowledge in SCADA systems (PLC programming, electronic instruments). Must obtain Distribution Operator "D" or higher, Instrumentation Certification and CompTia A+ certification within 2 years.
