Registered Nurse (RN) – Preop – St. Francis Downtown

Hours:

3, 9-hour shifts, 10a-7:30p - Part-Time

I. Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

The Registered Nurse provides nursing care to surgical patients in compliance with the South Carolina Nurse Practice Act; Standards of Practice as defined by ANA and AORN; JCAHO standards; and organization protocols, policies, procedures and guidelines. Develops, implements, evaluates and revises plan of care based on physical, psychosocial, spiritual, and educational needs of the patient and family. Assesses patient for changes that may hinder recovery. Collaborates with staff, physicians, and other disciplines to provide quality care delivery. Maintains clinical knowledge and skills competency to facilitate patient care in accordance with current standards of practice. Provides for a safe patient care environment.

II. Employment Qualifications

Education: Graduated from an accredited School of Nursing.

Experience: 2 years of RN experience

Licensure, Registration, or Certification:

Current licensure with South Carolina Board of Nurse Examiners.

BCLS, ACLS, PALS required.

Membership in a professional nursing organization (preferred).

Proficiency Requirements:

Passing grade on Connect Care Essentials for RN and Unit Secretary (IP110) and eMAR for RNs (RX210), as well as Advanced Optime course(s) appropriate for unit: OP100 for all RNs; OP300 – PAT; OP400 – Preop; OP500 – PACU; and OP600,OP120 – OR, and OP800 – for OR team leaders who manage preference cards

III. Essential Job Functions

  1. Performs comprehensive physical assessment of patient’s clinical condition, psychosocial, and educational needs inclusive of family needs.

  2. Develops plan of care, including education, based on findings that comply with current nursing standards.

  3. Implements plan of care safely and efficiently.

  4. Evaluates effectiveness of interventions, patient outcomes, and revises planned care accordingly.

  5. Collaborates with staff, physicians, and other disciplines in the delivery of interdisciplinary patient care.

  6. Participates in the quality improvement standards of the unit.

  7. Maintains clinical competencies.

  8. Maintains patient records to ensure accurate communication and continuity of patient’s medical treatment and nursing care.

  9. Utilizes effective interpersonal skills to provide professional care delivery to patients of various ages and cultures.

  10. Assesses patient’s physical and emotional response to treatment.

  11. Assists patient / family in coping with patient’s illness.

  12. Attends all mandatory in-services and required staff meetings.

  13. Accepts accountability for education provided pertaining to policies, procedures, and general patient care information, etc.

  14. Accepts responsibility for clinical application of information provided.

  15. Demonstrates ability to function under supervision.

  16. Notifies physician and appropriate personnel of acute changes in patient’s condition.

  17. Conducts self in a professional, compassionate, and competent manner as reflecting the Bon Secours Mission.

  18. Delegates tasks to appropriate caregiver as defined in scope of practice.

  19. Audits patient records as assigned.

  20. Always Maintains patient confidentiality and protects patient’s privacy.
