Hyster-Yale Materials Handling (HYMH), a world-class manufacturer of industrial lift trucks, has an excellent opportunity for an Accounting Intern (Part-Time) at our Americas Headquarters located in Greenville, NC.

HYMH designs, engineers, manufactures, sells, and services a comprehensive line of lift trucks and aftermarket parts under the Hyster and Yale brands. We are a global leader in the material handling industry, with over 90 years of building strong relationships with customers, suppliers, dealers, and employees worldwide.

The Accounting Intern role is a part-time position focused on providing exposure to various aspects of accounting, particularly sub-ledger processes. This role is part of the Americas Division HQ and offers valuable experience in industry accounting.

The role supports our Finance/Accounting shared services, specifically for manufacturing processes, including accounts payable, sales invoicing, cash application, sales tax, and payroll. You will gain exposure to the upstream and downstream impacts of accounting processes in a high-volume, fast-paced environment that involves multiple currencies, balance sheet reconciliations, and software like SAP. You’ll also work with both manual and automated processes (e.g., 3-way match, OCR, JE uploads) while maintaining a focus on accuracy, efficiency, and internal control. Additionally, there is exposure to various audits, including external, internal, SOX, and sales tax audits.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Transaction Processing: Process and post documents, including accounts payable, customer invoicing, and cash application. Reconcile vendor statements.

  • Sales Tax: Assist with sales tax return processing and payment, tax research, and audit support.

  • General Ledger/Analysis/Audit: Support general ledger processes, perform spreadsheet analysis, reconcile balance sheet accounts, and assist with audit information requests.

  • Continuous Improvement/Special Projects: Identify and recommend process improvements, evaluate metrics to reduce errors, and review/revise written procedures.

Education Requirements:

  • Junior or senior student pursuing a BS or MSA degree in Accounting.

Other Requirements:

  • A solid understanding of accounting and general ledger principles, strong analytical skills, and excellent communication skills.

Start Date: Dec 2024/Jan 2025

Work Hours: Part-time; minimum 20 hours per week

Duration: 6-month minimum commitment required, with potential extension up to 18 months

Hourly Rate: $20 per hour
