WESTMORELAND COUNTY TRANSIT AUTHORI Supervisor (Fixed-Route Division Supervisor) in Greensburg, Pennsylvania

Under the direction of the Service Operations Manager, the Fixed-Route Division Supervisor will provide supervision, training, and assistance to Authority operators and dispatchers with emphasis on providing service to customers, including resolving operational and customer relations problems, facilitating interpretation of rules and policies, training, and radio communications through observation and performance evaluations; performs other related work as required.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  1. Assists in overseeing the day-to-day operation of the Authority fixed-route service, monitoring service levels, ridership, customer satisfaction, and compliance with all Authority regulations and procedures.
  2. Assists in recruiting talent, as well as focusing on employee retention and motivation. Maintains a positive work environment.
  3. Assists in coordinating maintenance, vehicle and facility inspections.
  4. Ensure radio procedures are monitored, and policies are followed by both dispatchers and operators.
  5. Prepare reports as necessary.
  6. Assure that company standards of safety, courtesy and reliability are met by daily monitoring of driver team members for adherence of company policies, rules, and regulations.
  7. Support vehicle operators through routine observations and evaluations.
  8. Communicates with vehicle operators regarding proper safety procedures, defensive driving techniques, customer relations issues, counsels and takes corrective action when necessary and provides written documentation.
  9. Performs other duties as required, of a similar nature or level.

Job Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • Five (5) years of full-time work experience in a management position. Supervisory experience is preferred. Working knowledge of Collective Bargaining Agreement.
    • Must have a valid Pennsylvania Commercial Driver License (CDL) with passenger endorsement.
    • High school diploma or GED required. Demonstrated responsible work experience of at least three (3) years dealing directly with the public. Public bus driving experience desirable. Any combination of education and experience would provide the applicant with desired skills, knowledge, and ability required to perform the job.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Valid PA Commercial Driver License (CDL) with passenger endorsement
  • Ability to comprehend federal and state regulations and develop any required action plans.
  • Knowledge of Westmoreland County and surrounding county areas and roads, as well as ability to understand and read maps.
  • Knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and its specific applications to public transportation.
  • Ability to manage conflict and strive for consensus among diverse individuals and groups.
  • Must have working knowledge of MS Office products.
  • Ability to counsel, advise, train , and motivate Authority operators regarding performance and procedures.
  • Knowledge and experience in the management of transit or other similar services in a public sector environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex information to take action, prioritize the need, and delegate the work accordingly, and to hold Assistant Managers accountable for their respective responsibilities.
  • Ability to drive all job-related vehicles.

Physical Demands: Requires the use of a computer. Some travel to seminars and government offices may require overnight stays.

Working Conditions: Typical office conditions. All exempt employees must always carry their cell phone as a condition of employment. If the employee is in a location without cell service, the employee should notify the Executive Director. Typical w rkday is Monday through Friday.
