The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at North Carolina A&T State University invites applications for a 12-month, full-time, non-tenure-track lecturer, senior lecturer, or teaching assistant/associate professor position in mathematics beginning August 2024. An appointment at the teaching professor level may be considered for exceptionally qualified applicants. The initial appointment for the position is two years and is eligible for renewal.

The successful applicant for the position will be expected to show commitment to teaching excellence. She/he is expected to engage in culturally responsive teaching and high-impact practices in teaching mathematics, teach freshman-level mathematics courses with pre-college math enhancement and other gatekeeper math courses, conduct math tutoring, train and supervise supplemental instruction leaders, participate in course innovation and intervention as well as other student success initiatives, assist with math placement assessment, advise and mentor students, and provide service to the department, university, and professional community.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit:

North Carolina A & T State University is a public, doctoral/research and 1890 land-grant university that enrolls over 13,885 students. The College of Science and Technology enrolls 2,235 students. It is a national leader that serves and engages the citizens of the state of North Carolina, the nation, and the world through preeminence in science and technology education, research, discovery, and innovation. The College houses the departments of Applied Engineering Technology, Biology, Built Environment, Chemistry, Computer Systems Technology, Mathematics and Statistics, Physics, and the Ph.D. Program of Applied Science Technology. The College is experiencing substantial growth in enrollment, faculty size, curricula, and research. The Department of Mathematics and Statistics is an academic unit within the College of Science and Technology, seeking to provide undergraduate and graduate students with an inviting environment that inspires them to become leaders in their fields and areas of expertise. The Department of Mathematics & Statistics offers degree programs in Pure Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, and Statistics & Data Science at the B.S. level, Applied Mathematics, and Data Analytics at the M.S. level, and a doctoral concentration in Data Science & Analytics within the multidisciplinary PhD program in Applied Science and Technology. The Department also offers a minor program in Applied Mathematics, and an undergraduate certificate program in Data Science and Analytics, and is a major contributor to an online graduate certificate program in Data Analytics offered by the Graduate College.

Requirements:

Master’s degree in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics or Mathematical Education with at least 18 credit hours of graduate mathematics or statistics courses. For an appointment of teaching assistant/associate professor, a Ph.D. degree in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics or Mathematical Education is required.

Preferred:

The successful applicant should be familiar with culturally responsive and sustainable best practices in teaching mathematics, recent student-centered active and engaged learning strategies, and impactful practices in undergraduate mathematics instruction and student engagement, have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and a commitment to general education mathematics instruction, culturally responsive teaching in mathematics, centering students’ experiences in a way that support their mathematics identity and success, employing high-impact teaching practices in mathematics, high-quality customer services, and student success initiatives. The candidate must be able to demonstrate excellence in teaching diverse populations and have college/university level teaching experience.

    This position may be eligible for a remote or hybrid work arrangement, consistent with university and state policies. N.C. A&T employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina, within a 2-hour commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
