Under the supervision of the Vice Chancellor for Legal Affairs, Risk, and Compliance and General Counsel or her designee, this position performs a broad range of paraprofessional, technical, and administrative support services to the Division of Legal Affairs, Risk, and Compliance, specifically, but not limited to, the Office of Legal Affairs ( OLA ); assists OLA attorneys and other staff with providing, managing and coordinating high‐quality legal services to the University on multiple unrelated matters rapidly, accurately, and effectively in a high‐volume, fast-paced environment consistent with the expectations of the General Counsel or her designee, University stakeholders, and the North Carolina Attorney General.
Prepares various routine and specialized administrative documents and correspondence. Performs paralegal work of standard professional difficulty and assists in routine aspects of potential litigation, legal and/or factual research and analysis, and drafting of documentation. Serves as the University’s primary public records officer.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit:
The Division of Legal Affairs, Risk, and Compliance supports North Carolina A&T’s academic mission and strategic plan by working collaboratively with institutional and external partners to ensure an understanding of and adherence to the university’s ethical, legal, and regulatory responsibilities. The Division of Legal Affairs, Risk and Compliance consists of the Office of Legal Affairs, the Office of Compliance and Enterprise Risk Management, the Title IX Office, and the Department of Internal Auditing.
The Office of Legal Affairs ( OLA ) provides comprehensive legal advice and assistance to the N.C. A&T Board of Trustees, the Chancellor, the other senior administrators of the University, and through them, the University’s faculty and staff, only on legal matters involving or affecting the institution.
The OLA advises the University on the legal implications of proposed policies and actions and on compliance with state and federal laws, regulations, and UNC policies. The OLA drafts and reviews University contracts and other legal documents and is also available to provide educational services, including training programs on legal and policy matters, for any University constituency.
The OLA is responsible for selecting, engaging, and supervising any outside counsel engaged by the institution and coordinates all litigation conducted by the North Carolina Attorney General’s Office on behalf of the University. No attorneys other than those in the Office of Legal Affairs, outside counsel engaged by OLA , or the NC Attorney General’s Office are authorized to provide legal advice to the University.
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalency and four years of progressively responsible administrative/office management experience; or Associate’s degree in secretarial science, business administration, paralegal studies, or a related discipline and two years of progressively responsible administrative/office management experience; or Bachelor’s degree, preferably in business administration or a related discipline; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

This position may be eligible for a remote or hybrid work arrangement, consistent with university and state policies. N.C. A&T employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina, within a 2-hour commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
