The Crime Victim Compensation position provides case management and advocacy by processing financial claims for victims of violent crime under the requirements of Colorado Revised Statute 24-4.1 et. al., applicable polices, and standards. Position also works directly with victims for emergency resources, acts as liaison between program, community and Crime Victim Compensation Board.

Ability to read and write Spanish in a proficient manner is highly preferred. Ability to interpret and translate between English and Spanish using professional language is highly preferred.

Testing will be required for applicants who are selected to move forward in the hiring process who indicate bilingual (English/Spanish) abilities. This test will certify the selected, bilingual candidate and allow for a

bilingual pay differential (begins July 1, 2024).

Job Description The following job duties are established to outline the basic duties and responsibilities of the above captioned position. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Case Management and Claim Processing (60%)

Assist victims in applying for and accessing financial benefits including, but not limited to: medical assistance, funeral/celebration of life services, mental health counseling, loss of wages, loss of household support, immediate safety needs including replacement of residential doors, locks and windows. Open, review, and evaluate Crime Victim Compensation applications for eligibility requirements in relation to Colorado state statute, state standards and program policies. Obtain and evaluate applicable police reports in relation to claim submission and financial requests. Assess and investigate financial requests by verifying expenses through provider contact, communication with victim, insurance explanation of benefits, medical and therapeutic treatment notes, and other required documents Calculate and input payment request(s) in accordance with program policies and statute limitations. Maintain all files and claims involving on-going compensation; maintain records and fund disbursement. Provide check request authorization to 19th JD Court Administration, document and distribute payments to victims. Generate correspondence and send claim denials to victims. Provide documentation for payment recovery through restitution, attending court to testify and communicating to Deputy District Attorney as needed. Must be able to prioritize and multi-task to fulfill program and court deadlines. Victim Advocacy (20%)

Provide crisis counseling to victims with emergency needs in person, through telephone contact, and in writing including, but not limited to, safety planning and referrals within area resources. Contact area resources to complete direct agency to agency referral. Research emergency assistance in areas outside of Weld County. Community and Board Liaison (10%)

Provide emergency claims and communication to Board members. Attend monthly Board meetings for notation of Board approval or denial of claims. Attend local training to outside agency on program requirements, as well as work directly with local law enforcement advocates as needed. Communicate program requirements and needs to providers. Other Duties as Assigned (10%)

Required Qualifications Education

Associate degree in Criminal Justice, Human Services or closely related field or pursuing a bachelor s degree in same fields with an emphasis in business or accounting. Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
