Summary You will serve as a PHYSICAL SCIENCE TECHNICIAN in the Testing Department of NAVDRUGLAB GREAT LAKES IL. GS-05 $44,180-$57,431 / GS-04 $39,488-$51,331 Responsibilities You will have general knowledge of laboratory operations, procedures and safety requirements. You will make precise quantitative liquid transfers using appropriate analytical equipment. You will maintain detailed sample identification and inventory control using manual methods, bar code and computer technology. You will comply with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards and all applicable rules, regulations and instructions. GENERAL EXPERIENCE GS-04: Applicants must have 6 months of general experience defined as (1) Any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or (2) experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to perform successfully the duties of the position such as: Utilizing routine operations and procedures. Operating a computer. General knowledge of safety practices. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-05: In order to qualify for this position, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to perform successfully the duties of the position such as: Utilizing laboratory operations, procedures, and record systems; Measuring liquid and liquid transfers using laboratory equipment; Maintaining sample identification and inventory control using manual methods or computer technology; Utilizing laboratory requirements and standardized operational procedures; Utilizing laboratory safety procedures. Successful completion of 2 years (60 semester hours) above high school directly related to the position that included at least 12 semester hours in any combination of courses such as physical science, engineering, or any branch of mathematics, except financial and commercial mathematics. This education must be obtained at an accredited college or university. Possession of the requirements must be verifiable via SUBMITTING A COPY of the transcripts. SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE GS-05: Applicants may substitute the following education for the required experience, provided it demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position: Successful completion of a 4-year (120 semester hours) course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with courses directly related to the position (a) with major study in an appropriate field of physical science, or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as physical science, engineering, or any branch of mathematics, except financial and commercial mathematics. This education must be obtained at an accredited college or university. Possession of the requirements must be verifiable via SUBMITTING A COPY of the transcripts. COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be combined to meet the total qualification requirements.
