Intern Central Construction Engineer (Transmission and Distribution Overhead Projects)

Work Location : Great Falls, MT

Pay range : $20.00 per hour

Employment Status: Temporary (May - August full-time, 40 hours per week)

(September - December part-time, up to 20 hours per week while back at school)

About this position:

The construction engineer intern is tasked with supporting with engineering design and project management for the upcoming 2025 construction season. Engineering support will include design/drafting, job packet creation, and field verification or engineering design and risk management. Project management will include field visits to monitor construction progress and relay any important information to the design engineer and project supervisor. Monitor and measure the effectiveness of risk management controls and to capture lessons learned (results and communicate those to the engineer, project supervisor, and manager.

About this job:

  • Learn about NorthWestern Energy transmission lines, distribution lines and system operations

  • Use PLS-CADD Software to design and analyze transmission lines to complete engineering analysis

  • Contribute to a variety of engineering tasks assigned to Transmission and Distribution Construction (e.g. job site analysis, landowner contact, job book creation, communication between engineer/project manager and crews, etc.)

  • Assist in Company Wide Wildfire mitigation process and implementation

  • Work on infrastructure mapping/GIS information to improve data

  • Participate in organizational work meetings

  • Lifting of materials up to 35 pounds

  • Must possess strong interpersonal communication skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products, particularly Outlook, Excel, and Word

  • Engineering major required

  • Has successfully completed sophomore year or above by start date

  • Must be in good academic standing

  • Must Provide GPA in Resume upon application
