University of Michigan Health-West (Formally Metro Health) is looking for *Security Officer-Security  * - Shift varies 36 hours/week

he Security Officer ensures a safe and secure environment for employees, physicians, visitors, patients, and property of Metro Health hospital and its subsidiaries. Monitors and controls access to all area grounds, both internal and external. Participates in preparation and training for fire and other emergencies, responds to emergency request for security assistance, documents incidents, and transports employees and patients when necessary.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Security experience or related experience preferred
  • Valid Michigan driver's license and a driving record with less than 6 points or valid out of state driver's license with the expectation of obtaining a valid Michigan driver's license within 6 months from date of hire into this position.
  • Excellent communication skills and analytic ability
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and basic keyboarding
  • Must be able to function under stressful circumstances and to quickly analyze and take appropriate action in emergency circumstances, also the ability to make independent decision-making
  • Must be accountable when supervisor is not on-site and must be able to take proper action and contact supervisors when necessary

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure public safety, protect our assets and function as the primary liaison with state and local police, fire and security agencies; act calmly in emergency situations and use emergency equipment
  • Working with medical staff, de-escalate potentially violent and non-violent situations; help maneuver persons who may be combative, intoxicated or unconscious; restrain individuals as needed
  • Stationary, mobile and foot patrol responsibilities
  • Patrol the UM Health-West hospital and off-site health system buildings and monitor fire, infant protection, security, and access control alarm systems
  • Detect safety hazards and criminal elements
  • Use your customer service skills and inclusive mindset to respectfully communicate and work with all community members
  • Maintain confidentiality in all matters
  • Prepare incident and security reports
  • Ascend and descend multiple flights of stairs as part of the routine patrol
  • Provide services such as: escorts, wayfinding, unlocks, motorists assist, well-being checks, and property control.
  • Assist with morgue logistics
  • Performs other duties as assigned. These may include but are not limited to: Maintaining a current knowledge base of department processes, protocols and procedures, pursuing self-directed learning and continuing education opportunities, and participating on committees, task forces, and work groups as determined by management.
