Description:

Summary—Under the direction of a Registered Pharmacist, assists Pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications, maintaining drug inventory, and maintaining patient records. Provides courteous, cooperative, and timely service to patients, visitors, and staff.

Education—

  • Minimum: High School education or equivalent.

  • Preferred: Completion of formal pharmacy technician training program.

Credentials/Licensure—

  • Minimum: Pharmacy Technician License (issued by Michigan Licensing and Regulatory Affairs Bureau of Professional Licensing)

  • Preferred: Certified Pharmacy Technician by Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)

Related Experience—

  • Preferred: 2+ years pharmacy work experience in outpatient pharmacy setting; billing experience.

Essential Functions—

  • Prepares, packages, and distributes medication orders per physician/pharmacist request, or prearranged work assignment in accordance with state and federal rules and regulations and established policies, procedures, or protocols.

  • Contributes to effective and quality operation of the department.

  • Maintains logs, records, and other required documentation, files documentation.

  • Completes third party adjudication for prescription claims.

  • Utilizes computerized prescription dispensing system to complete the following aspect of filling patient prescriptions:

  • Create patient profiles.

  • Prescription data input

  • Third party/insurance processing

  • Prescription refilling

  • Incoming and outbound calls with patients, provider teams and third parties.

  • Order packaging and scheduling deliveries.

  • Perform simple pharmaceutical calculations including, but not limited to, days’ supply and weight-based dosing calculations.

  • Collect payments using point-of-sale system.

  • Participate in the training, education, precepting, and evaluation of pharmacy students and/or residents as assigned.

  • Excellent customer service skills.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
