Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking a talented Project Manager for immediate employment in our Grand Rapids, Michigan office. Imagine making a positive impact in your community while working on rewarding projects such as: environmental investigation and remediation of multiple contaminant types, site development and permitting, and evaluations to determine potential risk of exposure to human and environmental receptors all while incorporating sustainable, innovative and cost saving solutions for our clients. In this role, you will be responsible for managing AECOM staff and subcontractors, providing technical delivery, facilitating stakeholder engagement and communication, and financial management.

Typical projects that the candidate would manage include investigation and remediation projects focusing on a variety of industries and related contaminants including oil and gas, chlorinated solvents, and PFAS contaminants. Solutions would be driven by Federal and State regulations and incorporate nature-based solutions (bioremediation, phytoremediation, alternative treatment technologies) as applicable.

As a project manager, you will be responsible for managing a team who would design the investigative scope, coordinate field efforts, evaluate data, write reports and develop recommendations and conclusions. Work may also include the development of remedial plans and specifications, quantities for use in engineering cost estimates as well as preparation of bid documents and permitting documents at local, state, and federal levels. You will be expected to work with minimal direction with periodic reporting to a Senior Project Manager or Regional Manager.

Qualifications and responsibilities for this position may include the following:

  • Utilize site investigation and remediation techniques to drive solutions for our clients

  • Determine and define project scope and objectives

  • Manage all phases of projects (from beginning to close out)

  • Oversee the preparation of work plans and organizes project studies

  • Familiar with project invoicing and cash flow management

  • Analyze financial statements and complete budget tracking

  • Manage complex projects with small or local geographic footprints

  • Predict resource needs and manage them effectively

  • Identify potential project problems and opportunities in a proactive manner, analyze issues using all appropriate resources, develop alternatives, and arrive at the most optimum approach to mitigate problems or exploit opportunities

  • Monitor project performance to identify areas for improvement

  • Make sound, well-informed and objective decisions relating to assigned projects with a strong understanding of the impact and implications of those decisions

  • May provide technical oversight and quality control

  • Provide project updates on a consistent basis to various stakeholders about strategy, adjustments, and progress

  • Identify, mitigate, and manage project risks

  • Advise and mentor less experienced staff during all phases of project work

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • BS in engineering, geology, environmental science or related field and minimum of 2 years of experience in environmental project management and business development.

  • US Citizen/Permanent resident.

  • Role is subject to Background and MVR checks

  • Requires enrollment in the medical monitoring program requiring initial and annual physicals.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Licensed or ability to obtain license in the State of Michigan (Professional Engineer or Geologist).

  • Experience working with local and state regulatory agencies in Michigan including a familiarity with Part 201 and 213 regulations, guidance documents, and memoranda

  • 40-hour HAZWOPER certified (current).

  • PMP certification or ability to obtain certification.

  • Experience with regulator and stakeholder negotiations.

  • Experience successfully managing environmental projects for various types of clients.

  • Detail oriented with strong organizational and communication, both verbal and written skills.

  • Experience in team management and scheduling of staff and resources to ensure on time and on budget project delivery.

  • Experience preparing proposals, cost estimates, schedules, and change orders.

  • Interest in business development.

  • Have led teams of professionals in executing projects.

  • Ability to travel overnight on an occasional basis.

Additional Information

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $85,000.00 - $105,000.00.
