Corewell Health Cloud Systems Engineer Senior in Grand Rapids, Michigan

Job Summary

This is a temporary, full-time position that is expected to run for about one year. A new hire will be eligible for all core benefits, including medical, dental, vision, retirement, PTO accrual, and more.

Senior System Engineers are responsible for research, architecture, design, installation, integration, support and optimization on a wide variety of technologies as a part of the information technology infrastructure and application environment. Designs and implements high performing, highly available systems to meet the customers functional and cost requirements as defined in the service level and/or operation level agreements. Participates and often leads work on new project installations, system/infrastructure upgrades and system/infrastructure performance management. Participates in project leadership by documenting system scope and defining implementation procedures. Documents and drives best practices throughout the system. Solves complex problems, given the limitations of resource, process and technology. Staff members in this position are effective and self-sufficient in working within a diverse technology portfolio, and regularly provide guidance and training to less experienced systems engineers.

Essential Functions

  • Works with customer specifications and budgets to develop both critical and non-critical systems that are a part of the Corewell Health technology infrastructure.

  • Takes ownership of technical risk assessment of system readiness for operational turnover. Researches emerging technologies, standards and system trends that align with customer requirements and Digital Services (DS) architectural standards related to assigned projects, support responsibilities or strategic initiatives.

  • Provides technology leadership for project planning and execution, related to system architecture, design, integration, testing and implementation. Leads cross-functional teams to analyze system requirements and constraints to engineer technical solutions that meet the needs of the business, across multiple dimensions. Designs solutions that can be operationally implemented and supported within current organizational structures or defines new operational and support structures. As a project team member, accountable for project tasks, schedules, change control and project-related status reports. Coordinates work with team members, as required, to ensure successful delivery of all technical aspects of assigned projects for self and others.

  • Takes ownership of the operational support for assigned systems, including leading the creation of written support documentation and facilitation of knowledge transfer between teams and individuals involved in support.

  • Accountable for resolution of implementation and support issues, and leads collaboration with support teams to troubleshoot and resolve escalated incidents and problems using established DS procedures for problem and situation management. Leads the efforts in the creation of relevant technical and support documentation.

  • Effectively communicates to Leadership, status and resolution plans for complex technology issues.

  • Maintains knowledge of end user devices and integration with equipment, networking concepts (such as TCP\IP, WINS, DNS, DHCP), Windows Server and Desktop platforms, Enterprise Directories, storage subsystems and relational databases.

  • Able to work in an on-call rotation between team members (a few weekends per year).

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent

  • 5 years of full-time experience and demonstrated maturity in systems engineering (designing, implementing and supporting system and infrastructure services), with exposure to the complete systems development lifecycle (requirements gathering, design, development, testing, implementation, support and service level measurement)

  • Strong knowledge of cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure

  • Familiarity with virtualization, containers, and microservices

  • Experience with infrastructure as code (IaC) tools like Terraform or CloudFormation

  • Understanding of networking concepts, including VPCs, subnets, and security groups

  • Knowledge of identity and access management (IAM) and encryption

  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell

  • Ability to automate tasks using tools like Ansible or Chef

  • Analytical mindset to troubleshoot issues and optimize cloud resources

  • Adaptability to stay updated with evolving cloud technologies
