Job Description Summary

GE Aviation Systems is looking for an experienced Airborne Electronic Hardware Certification Engineer to provide technical leadership on exciting and new development projects that will have a major impact on GE’s business.

The AEH (Airborne Electronic Hardware) Certification Engineer is responsible for finding compliance as a subject matter expert to civil regulations (RTCA/DO-254, Advisory Circulars, Issue Papers, CRIs, CFR, CS, CAR, CAAC, etc.) involving Intellectual Property, Commercial integrated devices, commercial subassemblies, and circuit board assemblies. Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

  • Lead programs in determining product certification strategy and certification basis

  • Lead compliance planning and determination of means of compliance

  • Interpret aircraft regulatory material and determine project impact

  • Audit project / product artifacts and verification activities to assess compliance with the certification basis

  • Champion minimum effort solutions for meeting civil compliance

  • Assess changes to approved/certified products to determine minor or major classification

  • Provide technical leadership and technical direction for assigned organizational responsibilities, programs, and personnel including approval/sign-off of Certification documentation

  • Document technical data generated by the assigned project consistent with engineering policies and procedures

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or in “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)

  • Minimum of 10 years of direct design experience/knowledge with ASIC, FPGA, CPLD technologies

  • Minimum of 5 years working with regulatory compliance related to Advisory Circular 20-152 and RTCA/DO-254

Eligibility Requirements

  • This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology. GE will require proof of status prior to employment

  • Must be willing to travel 10% (domestic/international depending on the project)

  • Must be willing to work out of our GE offices located in Grand Rapids, MI or Dayton, OH

Desired Characteristics

  • Experience working directly with Advisory Circular 20-152, RTCA/DO-254, RTCA/DO-160 in safety-critical applications

  • Knowledge of ASIC design and fabrication (to include both the fabless and foundry aspects)

  • A strong understanding of the differences between RTCA/DO-178 and RTCA/DO-254 practices

  • Strong oral and communications skills

  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and conflict resolution skills

  • Ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization

  • Direct DER and/or ODA unit member experience
