Description of Job
We're hiring a public service oriented individual with excellent de-escalation skills to be ourTax Compliance Agent Intern!
In this role, you'll be organizing your workload in the morning and heading out the rest of the day to conduct tax compliance checks on businesses. Although you won't be auditing, you will use your interpersonal skills and knowledge to collect owed taxes and inform businesses of their delinquent account. If tax delinquencies are not voluntarily resolved, you will achieve compliance by serving distraint warrants, seizing inventories, and securing business property which may be sold at public auction to satisfy liabilities. Your ability to remain organized and manage your workload will ensure goals are met. This is a close knit, supportive and small team who make sure you have what you need! Primary Duties:
In this training field position, the incumbent will learn the following duties:
How to identify and locate non-compliant taxpayers and businesses.
What documentation is needed to provide to the taxpayer for types of non-compliance and delinquency.
Steps, processes and methods required to bring a taxpayer back into compliance.
Collecting, processing money and documents pertaining to the taxpayers account to bring them into compliance
What proper method to file judgments/liens.
Identify and secure assets for seizure to resolve accounts and achieve compliance.
This is a field position requiring the incumbent to spend approximately 60% of each day traveling to and meeting with businesses and individuals. The incumbent is provided with a state vehicle, laptop computer, cell phone and additional resources to perform their duties. A typical day begins with two hours of home-based account research and preparation, followed by six hours of field work.
The incumbent must be able to work independently without daily person-to-person supervision , have the ability to learn the law, be honest, and operate with integrity. The incumbent must be able to remain professional and respectful even during stressful or confrontational situations. The incumbent is directly responsible for enforcing tax compliance with a wide variety of business types.
Career Growth:
This is a trainee position with opportunities to be promoted to a Tax Compliance Agent I after completing the necessary tasks in the intern role and having successful performance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience Only:
Five (5) years of relevant experience in Accounting, Business, Payment Collections, Law enforcement and/or Investigations.
OR
Education and Experience:
A combination of related education in Business Administration, Accounting, Criminal Justice and/or a related field as determined by the Department and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to Accounting, Business, Payment Collections, Law enforcement and/or Investigations equal to five (5) years

Preferred Qualifications:
Additional years of professional experience in Payment Collections or Law Enforcement.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word
Proficiency with Google Suite
Organizational skills and task management
Experience working in public facing customer service, able to de-escalate confrontations
Ability to work independently without daily in person supervision
State experience using GenTax
Cash Handling Experience
Conditions of Employment with the CDOR :
Employees are in a position of public trust in the performance of their job duties and must operate in a manner that maintains the highest standards of honesty, integrity, and public confidence.
As a condition of employment with the CDOR, all personnel must file all necessary Colorado Individual Income Tax (CIIT) returns and pay tax obligations, therefore all employees must undergo a pre-employment evaluation of their tax records/accounts to ensure compliance with this policy. Final candidates must also complete a successful background investigation and reference check prior to appointment. Certain positions based on duties may require scheduled background investigations .

I understand that the primary duty station is Grand Junction and surrounding geographical areas, with travel to outlying assigned counties serving central and northwestern areas of the state to include but not limited to: Moffat, Rio Blanco, Routt, Eagle, Lake and Mesa counties. For reporting and assignment purposes, this position is aligned with the Colorado Department of Revenue Grand Junction Service Center which is located at 222 S. 6th St, #204, Grand Junction, CO 81501. The incumbent may reside in the geographic area and travel to Grand Junction as required for training and other tasks such as meetings, etc. Travel may require overnight stays.
