Intermountain Health Oncology Scheduler in Grand Junction, Colorado

Job Description:

M- F 0800-1630

  1. Schedule and pre-register patients for provider appointments, infusion treatment visits, procedures, and other appointments using different EMRs (Epic and Aria) and contexts.

  2. Confirms, enters, and/or updates all required demographic data on patient and guarantor on registration system. Avoids overlays and duplicate patient medical records. Utilize 5 identifiers to ensure the correct patient is selected.

  3. Coordinate complex schedules for oncology patients who may be receiving treatment across the Cancer Center Departments (Radiation Oncology, Medical Oncology, Infusion, and lab) utilizing multiple system applications: various scheduling applications, clinical operating systems, eligibility verification systems, medical necessity applications, scanning repository.

  4. Multitask, communicate effectively, and work cooperatively in a fast paced environment, working directly with Providers, Registered Nurses, Medical Assistants, outside contacts, and patients in the oncology clinical setting to schedule patients accurately.

  5. Notifies Supervisor of any discrepancies in Procedure Protocols, dictionary problems, or other EPIC issues.

  6. Complete insurance verification for all new patient consults

  7. Educate patients on procedure preparations, appropriate dress requirements, and special instructions as guided by the Scheduled Procedure Protocol. Schedule patients based on the physician order and instruction. Attach the order to the appointment accordingly.

  8. Refer self-pay patients to financial counseling to secure the account. Inform patients and providers of out of network payer status if applicable.

  9. Prioritize and review work for optimal reimbursement and to avoid financial risk to both patient and the clinic. Understand prior authorization process and impact to scheduling.

  10. Ensure high quality scheduling is completed accurately and timely through maintenance of departmental and/or individual work queues and reports.

  11. Responsible for meeting productivity and quality measures.

  13. Performs other duties as assigned.

  14. May be required to float to other departments (within scope of competency and qualifications) based on business need.

  15. May be required to be placed on-call during a regularly scheduled shift.

  16. Be available to work overtime if needed.

Education

Required: High School diploma or equivalent, required

Preferred: Associate or Bachelor's Degree, preferred

Experience

Preferred:

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English, preferred

  • Previous hospital/medical office, medical insurance and/or customer service experience, including at least one (1) year of previous experience specific to patient scheduling, preferred

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.

$17.85 - $24.26
