Position Title: Special Education Teacher 1.0 Probationary
Work Location: Grand Island High School
Salary: BA Step 1 $46,609.00 per GITA contract
Dates of Employment: February 4, 2025
Description of Position:
The role of this position will be to provide direct instruction, as well as coordinate the high school Alternative to Suspension and In-School Suspension programming. Must be skilled in providing differentiated and specially designed instruction to students at all levels. Must be familiar with the New York State Standards in ELA, math, science, and social studies at the high school level. Experience working with at-risk youth and with Restorative Practices is preferred. Other duties may be assigned as deemed necessary by the building or district administration.
Skills/Abilities Required :
New York State Certified Teacher in Students with Disabilities grades 7-12 (desired) or All Grades
Ability to support GIHS instructional program by supervising, supporting, and instructing students assigned to the Alternative to Suspension and In-School Suspension programs.
Evidence of academic success at undergraduate and/or graduate levels.
Strong work ethic and commitment to the school's mission and vision.
Ability to communicate effectively with building administration, the student support teams, and classroom teachers on instructional needs, assignment completion, and behavior progress for students in the ATS and ISS room.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Evidence of successful classroom management skills.
Ability to use authentic and traditional assessments to differentiate instruction and improve student achievement.
Ability to provide specially designed instruction and differentiated instruction at the high school level.
Familiarity with NYS standards in high school ELA, math, science, and social studies.
Qualifications/Skills/Abilities Desired:
Experience teaching high school students.
Experience working with at-risk adolescents.
Prior training in Restorative Practices and/or interest in becoming trained.
Experience in using behavior data to develop interventions.
Strong computer skills and ability to integrate technology into instruction.
