Description
Reports to:Clinical Development Manager
Rate of pay:$17.50/hour - $21.69/hour
Work schedule:Full-time, Monday - Friday, primarily day shift; the day-to-day schedule may vary slightly based on needs of Health Center; no evenings, weekends, or major holidays
Position Summary:The Medical Assistant shall provide support services to providers and the health center team to help ensure the health center runs smoothly. This position may be responsible for administrative and clinical tasks, such as maintaining patient records, preparing patients and rooms for examination, performing phlebotomy or other specimen collection for testing, assisting providers with exams, and performing front-end duties.
Primary Responsibilities:
Room patient, review and update appropriate health history with the patient at each visit, and inform the provider of changes in the patient’s health history.
Measure vital signs and prepare the patient for examination.
Perform reconciliation of medication list to include documentation of any medication refills needed with the patient.
Ensure all related reports, labs, and information are in the patient’s chart.
Assist the provider in the exam room as directed.
Clean exam table, instruments, and room after each patient and prepare exam room for next patient.
Perform routine medical support procedures independently or under the healthcare provider's direction as required.
Reinforce provider instructions to the patient. Provide appropriate resources for patient education and follow-up care.
Receive and direct phone calls, schedule appointments, check-in patients, obtain necessary patient information to update patient records, and ensure all forms and consents are completed by patients.
Act as a team member, assuring services meet the needs of each patient.
Maintain standards of infection control, confidentiality, and HIPPA compliance.
Adhere to all agency-approved policies and procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or Health Center management.
Requirements
High School Diploma, GED, or Medical Assistant Certification required.
One year of patient care experience preferred
Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and medical terminology.
Strong organizational and computer skills.
Ability to maintain good working relationships with others.
Exhibits a high level of professionalism and confidentiality in dealing with issues.
Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs., lift and support patients with and without help.
Ability to walk and stand for extended periods.
Regular exposure to infectious diseases, blood and airborne pathogens, needle sticks, hygiene issues, and other odors.
Able to tolerate clinical smells.
Ability to read digital readouts, recognize colors, and operate necessary medical equipment.
Ability to operate mechanical devices used by patients.
Ability to wear necessary hospital masks, gowns, gloves, and close-toed shoes.

Salary Description
