Job Description
Assist the Maintenance Manager and supervise Maintenance Mechanics/Technicians to ensure an efficient and safe maintenance operation.
Is responsible for department shift schedules and attendance. Ensure needed maintenance coverage for plant equipment in all departments.
Work with Maintenance Manager on pass down issues. Assign daily jobs and work orders at direction of Manager.
Inspect plant facilities and equipment daily. Inspect jobs in process and at completion to ensure standards of workmanship and safety are maintained.
Assist Maintenance Manager with all utilities of the plant and maintain in good working order.
Ensure maintenance staff has a good understanding of work practices and procedures.
Assist Maintenance Manager with maintaining and ordering repair and maintenance parts, supplies, tools, and equipment.
Assist the Maintenance Manager and actively support, monitor, and implement effective preventive maintenance programs to minimize unscheduled downtime, adjusting as needed.
Ensure safe work practices and a safe work environment in plant and shop areas.
Complete and maintain record keeping in SAP.
Assist Maintenance Manager to provide Maintenance Mechanics with the necessary training on existing and new equipment.
Work with Maintenance Manager to resolve equipment breakdown issues.
Manage / Support Department GMP, USDA, Safety and PSM systems.
Assist the Maintenance Manager on capital and special projects.
Work with Purchasing/Buyer to ensure an adequate inventory of spare parts and equipment.
Demonstrate ability to work unsupervised and make competent decisions when the Maintenance Manager is not available.
Help implement CI Programs to include Lean, Kaizen, 5S, and Leader Standard Work. Suggest and design process improvements and safety improvements.
Attend required training, including but not limited to GMP’s, HAACP, SQF, Safety, etc.
Follow all DFA GMP’s and work in a manner consistent with all corporate and regulatory, food safety, quality and sanitation requirements.
Work with contracting personnel to maintain a reliable and efficient operation.
Due to the nature of the job, this individual will be required for some on call and weekend work.

Requirements
Education and Experience
High School Degree or GED required
BS Degree in related field preferred
5 years’ experience in food or processing maintenance required
3+ year of supervisory experience preferred
Knowledge / Experience – Electrical, welding, boiler, refrigeration, compressed air, waste water, or plumbing licenses or certificates are a plus
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge company computer systems, specifically SAP
Knowledge of machine shop and process equipment
Skill in proficient computer usage
Able to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing
Able to work in collaboration effectively and foster good teamwork
Able to follow directions and meet deadlines
Able to perform mechanical overhauls on pumps, motor bearing changes, and piping projects
Able to lead and instruct others on the proper and safe procedures
Able to perform all required preventative, productive, predictive, and scheduled maintenance procedures
Able to perform electrical repairs such as motor wiring, motor starter fuses, and basic electrical trouble shooting and repairs
Able to demonstrate and teach the need and process of using safety gear, including gas monitors and full body harnesses
Able to demonstrate and train others in the use of oxy-acetylene torches, drill presses, side cutting wheels, various welding and other industry standard tools safely
Able to perform fan repairs, motor changes, and pump overhauls
Able to demonstrate abilities to perform in a safe, positive, systematic fashion
Able to perform task and duties without constant supervision
Able to understand the basic types of controls used in the plant and how they affect the process
Mechanical background
Understanding of PMO valves operation, troubleshooting, and repair
Basic understanding of plant computer networking
Must have good communication skills and an ability to delegate responsibilities
Must be able to read, write and speak English
