POSITION: Nutrition Service Roving Cook

RESPONSIBLE TO: Kitchen Manager and 1st Cook

EVALUATED BY: Director & Assistant Director of Nutrition

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Classified Position. Hourly Rate of Pay

PURPOSE OF POSITION: Assists in setting up, preparing and serving

daily meals. Assists in cleanup of food

service areas, and equipment. This Roving

Cook will work in all 12 kitchens when

kitchens are short staffed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

1. Prepares food items as specified on the menus, and as directed by kitchen manager or 1st

cook.

2. Job duties may include, but are not limited to washing dishes, operating commercial

kitchen equipment correctly and safely, sweeping, mopping, taking out the trash,

cleaning up spills, preparing food, serving food, and storing food.

3. Washes hands frequently, wears apron, wears hairnet at all times during work hours,

wears food safe gloves when handling food, and wears goggles and gloves if handling

chemicals; fingernails must be trimmed, free of injury and infection, and no polish, and

no artificial nails.

4. Performs all duties under strict food safety and sanitary guidelines as set by USDA,

KDA, KSDE CNW, and USD 265.

5. Assists with assessing amounts of food as directed, and replenishes food in the serving

line.

6. Stores all food items, chemicals, and cleaning items appropriately according to food

safety guidelines; keeps storage areas clean and orderly.

7. Uses safety techniques to lift, and use carts to carry supplies.

9. Cleans and maintains all food services areas including but not limited to food prep areas,

serving line areas, cafeteria, store rooms, walk-in coolers, employees lounge and/or

breakroom areas, bathroom near kitchen, and cleans kitchen equipment as assigned by

the kitchen manager.

10. Observes and reports possible contamination, sanitary or safety conditions to the kitchen

manager.

11. Reports needed minor repairs to the kitchen manager.

12. Use Skyward Employee Access program to clock in and out, submit weekly time

sheets; manage employee email account and to access district forms.

13. Able to comprehend written and verbal instructions. Able to receive and send emails as

needed.

14. A classified employee may be transferred at any time to any job which he/she is

qualified to perform when the transfer is deemed to be in the best interest of the district.

15. Participates in required training for USD 265 and KSDE. Implement procedures to

comply with USDA, KSDE, and USD 265 guidelines.

16. Demonstrates effective communication; willingness to work in team environment.

OTHER JOB DUTIES:

1. Must monitor students food trays to ensure each student is purchasing a nutritious meal.

2. Must follow USDA School Meal guidelines.

3. May be requested to perform other team members duties if short staffed.

4. May be trained to operate Point of Sale cash register.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be at least 18 years of age or older. Ability to give, receive and comprehend written

and verbal instructions; possess high personal grooming and behavior standards for

cleanliness; ability to interact professionally with other USD 265 employees; ability to

accept and uphold USD 265 standards. Must obtain a Food Safety Basics certificate within 6

months of the date of hire.

ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS:

Terms of employment may be from two (2) hours to eight (8) hours a day up to a forty (40)

hour work week, with the understanding that schedules and shifts may be altered

depending upon the critical nature of the job. Workday hours will be determined daily on

an as needed basis.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

1. Wears clothes that are clean, and in good repair, no holes or tears or stains. Must wear

sturdy closed toe and closed ankle shoes, shorts are acceptable if the hem is to the knee.

No sweat pants or sleeveless shirts. No jewelry, except small stud earrings, one plain

band such as a wedding band, and a watch is acceptable. Must
