About the job:

Reporting to the Economic Empowerment Supervisor and/or Financial Coach, the economic empowerment intern will coordinate and provide financial counseling/coaching services for clients and assist with administrative work, data entry, and other program implementation work.

Responsibilities:

Provide 1:1 financial coaching and counseling (including: how to create a personal budget, establish a bank account, take loans, and establish credit, as well as advanced asset building topics, including analyzing credit reports and co-creating effective debt management plans.)

Assess client needs and develop individual financial action plans with each client.

Provide credit and car purchase workshops to potential loan applicants.

Assist with data entry, outreach, resource management, etc.

Intern benefits:

Intern will work with a range of clients, (e.g. recent refugee arrivals, asylum seekers, naturalized citizens, undocumented folks etc.)

Intern will split time more or less evenly between admin work and client-facing work, in both a 1:1 and workshop setting. (This isn't boring computer work!)

Intern will work in a program that allows them to easily network across other IRC teams.

Requirements:

Demonstrates ability to communicate well with people of varied backgrounds

High level of comfort, functioning and effectiveness in multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary teams

Excellent organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail and computer literacy

Strong written and verbal communication skills, including ability to make presentations

Ability to work independently, be a self-starter and manage multiple tasks

Fluency in English required.

Proficiency in a relevant second language strongly preferred (esp. Spanish, Ukrainian, Arabic, Dari, Farsi -- in that order).
