Summary

The Dental Laboratory Assistant position assists the Dental Lab Coordinator in functions and duties at the College of Dental Medicine, Dental Institute, Arizona. This position reports to the Director of Clinical Digital Technology Curriculum.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitor all out-going and in-coming laboratory cases requiring the opening and closing of small shipping boxes.

  • Record and organize data to be imported in various software which requires computer skills and keyboard input.

  • Assist and assess students with lab prescriptions and lab equipment usage.

  • Organize, stock, and maintain cleanliness in student laboratories requiring lifting up to 25lbs of lab material into bins. Move equipment for relocation or cleaning.

  • Maintain lab equipment requiring the ability to change filters, partially disassemble small equipment to clean, using small hand tools such as pliers, screwdrivers, etc.

  • Working with new technologies that are implemented in the clinic and laboratory

  • Work closely with the other Dental Laboratory Coordinator and the Director of Clinical Digital Technology Curriculum.

  • Communicate and discuss cases with laboratories, faculty and students.

  • Train with our technology changes in the clinic as needed.

  • Other duties may be assigned.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or GED required. Must have 1-3 years of related experience working in a dental office or dental laboratory setting. Previous experience working with dentures, partials, mouth guards, and repairs is preferred. The ideal candidate will have experience in a commercial laboratory with the ability to demonstrate laboratory procedures to students. The candidate should enjoy detailed work and work cooperatively with faculty, students, and staff. The ability to maintain a professional demeanor, be meticulous and promote a welcoming atmosphere is essential. The ability to collaborate well and work with a team.

Computer Skills

Computer proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). Ability to become familiar with laboratory and dental clinical software. This individual will become familiar with in-use medical/dental computer systems such as CEREC, Epic, and university email.

The employee is often required to lift and/or move items weighing up to 25 pounds, and on occasion, must lift and/or move items weighing up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. This position requires that the technician have excellent manual dexterity.
