Graduate Nursing Program Advisor

The Graduate Nursing Program Advisor plays an essential role in supporting the day-to-day operations of the graduate nursing programs. Under the direct supervision of the Graduate Program Director, the advisor is responsible for assisting with student admissions, academic advising, registration, and ensuring students receive the necessary resources to succeed in their graduate studies. This position also provides recruitment, student services, advising, and programmatic support for students employed by affiliate partners of the graduate nursing programs. The Graduate Nursing Program Advisor involves coordinating with faculty on various programmatic tasks, including grant writing, accreditation requirements, and student remediation plans.

Primary Responsibilities

Works under the Direct Supervision of the Graduate Program Director.

  • Admissions Support:

  • Participate in live and virtual recruitment events.

  • Maintain admission documents throughout the year for prospective graduate students, including students employed by affiliate partners.

  • Prepare admission folders for CAGS (Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study) students in the NP (Nurse Practitioner) concentrations and deliver them to the concentration coordinators.

  • Deliver completed admission packets to the Graduate Program Director and Department Head for review and decision-making.

  • Prepare and send information packets to admitted and/or rejected students, ensuring timely communication.

  • Student Advising and Course Registration:

  • Create personalized course sequences for accepted graduate and CAGS students, ensuring they are on track to complete their core courses.

  • Send orientation and information packets to admitted students and ensure the receipt of acknowledgement forms.

  • Register newly admitted students for their first courses and assist any students facing challenges with self-registration.

  • Meet with students on academic probation at least once per semester to discuss their progress and plan for the next course registration.

  • Meet with students on remediation plans throughout the remediation period to provide support and guidance.

  • Student Support:

  • Serve as the primary contact for all graduate student inquiries, responding to questions or concerns regarding the program.

  • Support the learning journey of partner-students based on written agreements between the university and partner organization, and the unique needs of non-traditional, online, and adult-learner graduate students.

  • Support efforts to achieve critical University partnership enrollment goals by collaborating with academic program coordinators, partnership managers, members of the marketing team, and representatives from partner organizations.

  • Assist with academic issues or concerns that arise for graduate students or faculty, acting as a liaison between the two groups.

  • Program Coordination and Faculty Assistance:

  • Assist faculty with grant writing, accreditation, and university reporting requirements, such as conducting 6-month post-graduation and employer surveys.

  • Participate in reviewing and updating the Graduate Program Handbook alongside graduate faculty and make necessary revisions.

  • Administrative and Other Duties:

  • Provide administrative support for the Graduate Program Director and faculty as needed.

  • Perform any additional duties necessary to ensure the success and well-being of students within the Graduate Nursing Programs.

Qualifications

Required

  • A Master’s degree in Nursing, Education, Counseling, or a related field is required.

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in academic advising, student services, or administrative roles, preferably within nursing or health sciences programs.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities efficiently.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a focus on providing exceptional student support.

  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with students, faculty, and administrative staff.

  • Experience working with non-traditional, online, adult-learner, and graduate students.

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends, as needed.

  • Willingness and ability to travel locally.

    Preferred

  • Experience in Nursing Education.

  • Experience with grant writing, accreditation processes, or university reporting.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Slate, Banner, and other student information systems.
