Rowan University Construction Management Program Mentor (AD2), Rowan Online in Glassboro, New Jersey

Program Mentors in Rowan University’s Construction Management Program play a critical role in providing the best experience for our construction industry students. Mentors facilitate the admissions, advising, retention, and graduation for these special Rowan Online learners.

The Program Mentor will provide recruitment, student services, and programmatic support for students from construction firms and trade unions who participate in our Bachelor of Arts in Construction Management (BACM) and Master in Engineering Management (MEM) programs.

This role will involve actively engaging in various aspects of admissions and recruitment, including participation in live and virtual recruitment activities, outreach and ongoing consultation with prospective students, admissions support, and post-admission advising. The Program Mentor will support the learning journey and requirements of partner students based on arrangements between the university and partner construction firms, and the unique needs of non-traditional, online, and adult-learner undergraduate/graduate students. Program Mentors are designated as Professional Services Specialist-3 and report to the Associate Vice President for Rowan Online.

The Constructions Management Program Mentor will also contribute to efforts to achieve University partnership enrollment objectives by collaborating with academic program coordinators, partnership managers, members of the marketing team, peers across the Office of Advising and Student Information Services, and representatives from partner organizations.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Guide partner students from interest to credential completion with deep knowledge of the BACM and MEM programs, partnership agreements and program customizations, relevant admissions requirements and eligibility, employer and university financial aid and other funding resources, and anticipated resulting career opportunities

  • Engage prospective students and applicants from partner organizations via in-person appointments, telephone, and automated communication plans to promote Rowan University’s partnership agreements and assist through the admission process

  • Process and review application materials including transcripts, resumes, certifications, licensures, essays, test scores, etc.

  • Fulfill requests from departments and partnership managers for attendance at off-campus recruitment events and conferences.

  • Work with the Associate Vice President for Rowan Online, marketing team, and partner HR/corporate training functions to develop and optimize strategic communication and engagement plans that support partner students to admission

  • Provide holistic success coaching to partner-students in the BACM and MEM programs, including preliminary transcript assessments and identification of potential credit for prior learning opportunities

  • Advise admitted partner-students on program academic requirements, course selection, and provide career advising or referrals to career advancement resources

  • Act as a liaison to the Department Chair/Head and other BACM program administrative personnel by monitoring course section availability, and providing feedback on new program rollouts, online course development, and MOUs

  • Accurately update student records through Rowan's Information Systems (Banner SIS, Slate CRM)

  • Comply with federal and/or state laws and regulations, including FERPA.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Essential Areas of Functional Competence:

  • Admissions and Recruitment:

  • Engage with prospective students through various channels (phone, email, in-person) to provide information on Rowan University programs and guide them through the admissions process.

  • Conduct individual and group presentations, virtual and in-person office hours, and represent Rowan University at regional and national events.

  • Collaborate with academic program coordinators and the marketing team to develop strategic recruitment plans and optimize communication efforts.

  • Review and process application materials, ensuring compliance with university and regulatory standards.

  • Provide detailed reports on outreach and recruitment activities to the Director of Graduate and Online Admissions.

  • Academic Advising:

  • Advise students on academic requirements, course selection, and career pathways, both in individual and group settings.

  • Monitor student academic progress, interpret standardized test scores, and assist with course registration.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of university policies, degree programs, and institutional initiatives, providing accurate guidance to students.

  • Collaborate with specialized staff for student services such as tutoring, financial assistance, and counseling.

  • Assist with new student orientations, admissions activities, and retention programs.

  • Financial Aid Support:

  • Provide exceptional customer service to students and families, ensuring they understand financial aid policies, application processes, and eligibility requirements.

  • Perform financial calculations, assess aid eligibility, and manage scholarship programs.

  • Review and verify student documentation, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations.

  • Collaborate with various campus offices, including Admissions, Business Office, and Registrar, to support student financial needs.

  • Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Assist in daily operations by managing communications (phone, email, live chat) and maintaining confidentiality of student records.

  • Participate in divisional and university committees, as well as professional development activities.

  • Use institutional systems (Banner SIS, Slate CRM, Rowan Success Network/Starfish) to update student records, track interactions, and generate reports.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree with experience supplemented with a Masters Degree

  • Minimum five years of experience in university admissions, recruitment, enrollment management, customer care, or advising

  • Experience working with non-traditional, online, and adult-learner undergraduate students and graduate students

  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism

  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and work as a team member

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present dynamically to a variety of constituencies

  • Demonstrated effectiveness in authoring clear, concise, grammatically- and factually-correct correspondence

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends, as needed

  • Willingness and ability to travel locally

Preferred

  • Familiarity with the construction industry is strongly preferred

  • Familiarity with the unique goals and enrollment strategies used in the context of university partnerships with employers to upskill and reskill employees

Strong record of successful outcomes in the development and achievement of enrollment goals

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Slate, Banner, and other student information systems.
