Summary/Objective

The Kitchen Assistant is responsible for food service duties in a residential community correction facility. This position performs all duties per Wyoming Department of Health standards.

Essential Functions

  • Prepares and serves meals for residents
  • Receive and store all food deliveries
  • Maintain inventory of kitchen stock supplies and notifies Kitchen Manager of reordering needs
  • Records refrigerator and freezer temperatures
  • Ensure Kitchen and Dining Room are clean and meet sanitation and safety regulations
  • Document and submit reports regarding resident behaviors/incidents
  • Wash dishes
  • Other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the organization.

Work Environment

This job operates in a residential community corrections facility, routinely using standard kitchen equipment such as stoves, scales, mixers, dishwashers, and knives.

The physical demands described here represent those that an employee must meet to perform the essential functions of this job successfully.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk; hear; and taste or smell.

The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch.

The employee must frequently lift and move up to 50 pounds with assistance and occasionally lift and move up to 100 pounds with support.

Sufficient close vision is needed to perform duties such as checking the appearance of food, using a food processor and meat slicer, measuring ingredients, reading, writing, and taking food temperatures.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time or part-time status dependent on the position hired---the availability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime, as needed.

Travel

Little to no travel is expected for this position.

Required Education, Experience, or Eligibility Qualifications

  • High School education or equivalent
  • ServSafe certified (if not certified, training will be made available)
  • At least two years experience as a Cook in a commercial setting
  • Must be able to pass a background check with the Wyoming Department of Corrections and Bureau of Prisons

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Institutional Cooking Experience
