Gilbert has an exciting opportunity for a Grounds Maintenance Worker III who is innovative, driven, and passionate about the Town's parks and our community.

The Grounds Maintenance III position performs specialized installation, maintenance and repair work related to their assigned area of responsibility. This includes performing inspections and preventative maintenance of a variety of equipment, facilities, grounds, parks, and other items. They identify issues and initiates the repair or replacement of items. Inspecting and monitoring conditions of assigned sports fields to determine compliance with prescribed standards established by the department. The position will be responsible for water management and irrigation best practices within assigned areas. This position will also train and oversee subordinate staff on landscape, field and irrigation maintenance. They also maintain and/or clean park facilities, courts, structures, fields, trails, grounds and equipment.

Additional responsibilities will include (but not limited to):

  • Perform specialized installation, maintenance and repair work related to assigned area of responsibility.

  • Perform inspections and preventative maintenance of a variety of equipment, facilities, grounds, parks, and other items. Identify issues and initiate the repair or replacement of items.

  • Inspect and monitor conditions of assigned sports fields to determine compliance with prescribed standards established by the department.

  • Hold supervisory responsibilities over Ground Maintenance Worker I & II's, such as time card approvals and performance review of subordinates.

  • Train and oversee subordinate staff on landscape, field and irrigation maintenance.

About You

The primary function of this position is to perform basic manual labor and general landscaping associated with the maintenance of grounds, parks, athletic fields and irrigation systems including mowing, weed control, and removal, turf maintenance, shrub and tree maintenance. Practical experience maintaining commercial irrigation systems for areas such as sports fields, parks, and golf courses is desirable. Ideal candidates will be safety-conscience and manage time wisely. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have the interpersonal and communication skills needed to build positive relationships with customers and co-workers, and be able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.)

  • Minimum of seven years of previous experience and/or training in grounds maintenance, athletic field maintenance, irrigation system maintenance, equipment operation, and manual labor

  • Valid AZ Class D Driver's License

    LICENSING/CERTIFICATIONS: (Four within 12 months)

  • Valid Arizona Driver's License

  • Sports Fields Managers Association.: Certified Sport Field Manager

  • Irrigation Association: CLIA, CLWM Certification

  • International Society of Arboriculture: Certified Arborist, Certified Arborist Municipal Specialist

  • Arizona Department of Agriculture:

  • Pesticide applicator license- Core, Turf and Ornamentals, right of way/weeds

  • National Recreation and Park Association: CRPR, CPSI

  • Professional Grounds Management Society: CGM Certified Grounds Manager

  • LATP Backhoe I & II

  • Baseline I and II

  • Groundkeeper University

  • A.A. Degree in related field
