Work Designation. Depending on your location within the continental US, this role may behybridorremote.

    • Advanced proficiency level using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access software applications with VBA/macro experience preferred

    • Knowledge and experience with SAP, BW, Workiva and/or similar accounting/financial software

    • Comprehensive knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), with an emphasis on insurance accounting and/or investment accounting

    • Comprehensive knowledge of principles and practices of accounting and financial systems user applications (SAP preferred), including input/output processing and complex system concepts, and ability to understand and use computer systems and application tools for analysis

    • Strong knowledge and demonstrated experience performing financial analysis, reporting, and/or process improvement

    • Demonstrated competencies in the areas of consulting, change management, quality and project management

    • Ability to communicate results, complex topics and issues to management in an effective manner

    • Demonstrated ability to manage processes and to mentor less experienced team members

    • Excellent teamwork skills with the ability to demonstrate effectiveness in a cross functional group

    Education & Experience Required

  • Bachelor's Degree In Accounting, finance or a related field

  • Ten years of professional job-related work experience in investments and related experience in accounting and reporting

    Or an equivalent combination of education and experience

    Education & Experience Preferred

  • CFA, CPA, CMA, or equivalent certification

    Principal Duties & Responsibilities

    • Monitors the design and effectiveness of the system of internal control over the Investment Accounting team’s functions and recommends modifications as needed, after consultation with management and Internal Audit

    • Participates with a cross-section of Finance, Tax, Aflac Japan, and Global Investments on detailed analyses of proposed Investment-related accounting impacts on the Company’s financial position

    • Works closely with the Accounting Policy team to implement new pronouncements from the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and other regulatory authorities and to ensure conformity in financial applications and the implementation of all related disclosure and reporting requirements

    • Acts in a senior capacity delegating assignments, reviewing and approving the work of, and providing advice and direction to junior team members

    • Maintains a strong understanding of all investment accounting policies and reporting requirements for both US GAAP and US Statutory

    • Maintains a strong understanding of sub-ledger (FAM), and how the system interacts with Global Investment front office applications (example: Aladdin), and back office reporting/ledger systems (BW, SAP, BPC, Wings, etc.)

    • Under the direction of management, helps plan and develop various departmental strategies with the business units and Accounting Policy

    • Assists the team and analyzes complex investment data and information; completes quantitative and qualitative reviews and prepares required internal and external records, reports, statistics, SEC and stockholders’ reports, etc.; develops and presents conclusions and recommendations to management

    • Leads or participates on project teams or committees assisting with the development, planning, and implementation of strategic long-range and short-range goals and objectives and continuous improvement

    • Establishes and maintains strong working relationships with business partners as their key point of contact in certain areas

    • Works with Investment Accounting leadership in tracking the progress made on departmental goals

    • Maintains and ensures a continuous improvement culture by developing and tracking KPIs with the team, developing recommendations for improvement, executing those recommendations, and driving the effectiveness of daily huddle meetings

    • Develops and maintains reports to enhance reporting requirements

    • Displays and fosters positive team membership within the department; cooperates, listens to and values the opinions of others, and supports the goals of the department

    • Establishes and maintains strong working relationships with business partners as their key point of contact in certain areas

    • Serves as a main point of contact for key stakeholders including Global Investments, Financial Reporting, internal and external auditors and other business units to support their needs and questions

    • Performs other duties as required, such as, but not limited to, assisting other areas of investment accounting as a result of turnover/other project needs

    This compensation range is specific to the job level and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to: education, experience, licensure, certifications, geographic location, and internal equity. The range has been created in good faith based on information known to Aflac at the time of the posting. Compensation decisions are dependent on the circumstances of each case. This salary range does not include any potential incentive pay or benefits, however, such information will be provided separately when appropriate. The salary range for this position is $72,000 to $167,000.
