Hobart and William Smith Colleges Assistant Director of Admissions in Geneva, New York

To assist in the planning, coordination and implementation of those activities that directly impact the recruitment and selection of students to the Colleges. The Assistant/Associate Director will be involved in a full range of admissions responsibilities including regional recruitment efforts (travel, correspondence and communication with prospective students and secondary school personnel), interviewing, on-campus events, management of student assistants, and application review. Directed by the Director of Admissions, the Associate Director oversee 1-2 functional office projects. Evenings and weekend work are frequently required at various times throughout the year.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Manage traditional recruitment territory including travel (6-8 weeks in the fall and 1-2 weeks in the spring), school relations, communication with prospective students, interviews, application review, etc.

• Evaluation of admissions files and making practical decisions on candidates for the Colleges.

• Establish a continuum of personalized communication with prospective candidates, school counselors, and community-based organizations to strengthen their connection to the Colleges.

• Demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to unique social, cultural, and economic circumstances of students.

• Understand and interpret data that are a part of the admission and financial processes including: applications for admissions, accepted student questionnaires, enrollment planning data, admissions charts, and tables, needs assessment documents.

• Demonstrate knowledge and embrace the Colleges’ educational philosophy and mission.

• Participate in regional college admissions associations and represent the Colleges at events and presentations.

• Act as a liaison with various student organizations, clubs, and groups as needed.

• Demonstrate knowledge for the Colleges’ educational philosophy and mission.

• Demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to unique social, cultural, and economic circumstances.

• Performs other related duties as required.

Other Information:

This is a full-time, 12-month, benefits-eligible, administrative exempt position. This position description is not all-inclusive as other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned. Annual salary is $58,458.

• Bachelor's degree is required

• Title is commensurate on experience, (0-2 year for Assistant Director and 3 or more years for the Associate Director).

• College admission recruitment or related experience preferred.

• Candidates for the position must possess superb written and oral communication skills, computer skills, a high level of energy, a valid driver’s license, and a lively imagination.

• Knowledge of enrollment CRM (Slate), Microsoft Office helpful.

• The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.
