Job Title: Governance and Control Manager

Job Type: Full Time, Permanent

Working Location: Holborn, London (Hybrid)

Role purpose

Travelex, the world leader in providing foreign currency, is looking for a candidate to join its Governance and Control team in London, as a Governance & Control Manager. This role would involve the management of risk, internal controls, and 2LoD assurance related activities. As well as advancing the internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR) through review of existing policies and procedures, and implementing new policies as identified to strengthen the internal control environment.

Key accountabilities

Technical activities:

  • Assess the control design and operating effectiveness of key financial controls.

  • Identify internal control weaknesses over the key financial cycles and recommend the necessary corrective and remedial actions with the finance stakeholders.

  • Review the Balance Sheet account reconciliations in accordance with IFRS and FRS accounting standards. Produce clear reports of the testing performed, results noted, root causes of control failures, recommendations, and timelines to address.

  • Manage the maintenance of the GRC tool (Oracle Risk Management Cloud) and support with the timely investigation and remediation of any incidents.

  • Follow-up with the finance teams to ensure all finance internal audit findings are remediated on a timely basis.

  • Assess the effectiveness of existing finance related policies and perform routine updates.

  • Perform any other 2LoD assurance reviews or assist with any system enhancement / finance transformation projects as required.

  • Coordinate and prepare materials for the Governance & Controls Board ensuring prompt and precise communication between teams and SLT.

  • Build strong links between finance and the rest of the business, championing good financial and corporate governance.

  • Continual review, maintenance and update of risks, issues, controls, and process documentation across the finance environment, including finance systems.

  • Participate in year-end audit activities from an assurance and controls perspective, including liaison with external audit firms.

Relationship management:

  • Be the ‘Trusted Adviser’ to the business on all matters related to the internal control environment and Balance Sheet assurance programme.

  • Work closely with internal audit to ensure consistency with plans, approach and outcomes including the follow up and closure of issues.

  • Develop sound professional working relationships with Finance colleagues, FSSC teams, auditors, and management, building their confidence and acquiring an understanding of the business.

  • Be proactive in the provision of feedback and the delivery of ideas to develop and improve solutions relating to Travelex finance.

Experience and personal qualities

Essential:

  • Educated to degree level and be fully qualified with a relevant professional accounting body (e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CFA).

  • At least 5 years post qualification experience.

  • Strong experience with external audit and internal audit from a top/medium-tier professional accounting firm including Sarbanes-Oxley controls experience.

  • Good understanding and working knowledge of internal control frameworks, control requirements, end-to-end key financial cycles, accounting principles and standards including knowledge on IFRS and FRS requirements.

  • Strong leadership and influencing skills in relation to stakeholder management.

  • Experience working with global shared service centre environments and finance teams in publicly listed organisations.

  • Experience in driving control improvements and remediation actions with global teams including as part of finance transformation projects.

Travel Requirement

  • Negligible travel should be expected with this role.
