Job Description
Gary Lighthouse Charter School: Upper Academy in Gary, IN is current seeking an Culture Team Member (Behavior Specialist) for the 2022-2023 school year. Candidates with experience in and a passion for restorative practice will be HIGHLY considered.
Essential Qualities
The Behavior Specialist is a member of the school culture team. They help transform children’s lives by creating opportunities for a brighter future. Essential Functions
The Behavior Specialist is an instructional and strategic leader who works to create and enhance a culture of achievement and respect where high expectations and results are the norm.
The actions of our Behavior Specialists must always be aligned with our mission, vision, core values and education program. The essential functions for our Behavior Specialists are as follows:
INSTRUCTIONAL LEADERSHIP
I. Culture of Achievement and Respect
Collaborate with school leadership team to create and manage a safe and welcoming learning environment
Design and implement systematic approach to managing and intervening on student discipline issues based on the LHA School Culture Guide, Student/Family Handbook, and Responsive Classroom/Developmental Design
Evaluate implementation of the LHA School Culture Guide, Student/Family Handbook, and Responsive Classroom/Developmental Design at classroom and school levels
Coordinate School-wide Town Hall Meetings and develop lesson plans to implement the SHINE program
Coordinate positive programs for students during and after-school (example: student council, peer mediators)
Research and implement new school culture initiatives to further develop the school culture
Build a culture of achievement and respect with families, students and school/ network staff
Model professionalism and the LHA Essential Qualities at all times
II. Professional Development
Plan and lead staff learning experiences through professional development and grade level meetings
Observe in classrooms and provide feedback on behavior management
Skills & Requirements
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree
Experience with proven track record of improving school culture as it pertains to student behavior and discipline
Proven success in turning best practices into outstanding academic results

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
Highly effective classroom management skills
Ability to lead professional development for teachers and provide feedback
Training and experience with Responsive Classroom and Developmental Design
Knowledge of education law and regulations with specific knowledge of special education and student suspension guidelines
Ability to use data managements tools, organizational tools, and Microsoft Office computer programs
Qualifications
