Job Summary

The Assistant Manager, MSC – Train Reporting is responsible for overseeing the Train Reporting Services team. The incumbent ensures accurate and timely reporting of the movement and assignment of trains, rail cars and other assets. The role also identifies opportunities for operational efficiencies related to way billing and movement of railcars. The incumbent collaborates with Train Reporting Representatives (TRRs), frontline operational decision makers and Assistant Superintendents, providing the necessary knowledge and direction to facilitate consistent and effective application of reporting regulations. The role requires an understanding of the theoretical and practical application of collective bargaining agreements, corporate policies and codes of conduct.

Main Responsibilities

Train Report Management

· Create a positive learning environment and provide consistent coaching and feedback to team members

· Ensure TRRs are equipped with the necessary knowledge, skills and support

· Engage with TRRs to create a team environment both within the TRS and between the TRS and external stakeholders

· Ensure stakeholder satisfaction by identifying, investigating, and resolving issues in a timely manner, improving information flow, and providing process intelligence

· Stay up to date with and implement leading edge practises in complaint management

· Identify trends in centre workload and ensure proper staffing to meet demand

· Support Senior Manager, Train Reporting Services, with quantitative and qualitative data on centre performance

· Conduct continuous reviews of centre performance, policies and procedures in order to identify areas of improvement

· Develop and implement strategies for improvement in a measured and effective manner to maximize understanding and adherence

· Conduct investigations

· Recommend corrective actions and respond to grievances in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement and corporate policies

Working Conditions

The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. The incumbent must be available to work shifts and weekends when necessary. The role requires being available on-call 24/7 to respond to critical incidences. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure, and stress.

Requirements

Experience

Supervision

· Minimum 2 years of experience supervising a team, preferably in a clerical environment

o Experience working in a unionized work environment

o CN railway Operations experience

Education/Certification/Designation

· Post Secondary Education*

*Any designation for these above would be considered as an asset

Competencies

· Shares timely information within and across functions to get things done effectively

Technical Skills/Knowledge

· Extensive knowledge of railway transportation operational practices

· Advanced knowledge of Software Requirements Specification (SRS)

· Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
